Everyone's been bashing SVC since it came out. Yeah, it was a hype monster, but I only get excited about games that look cool regardless of hype. Now that I've played the game a lot I still dig it and I didn't feel let down at all.

The sprites alone are pure genius. Take a look at what Capcom did with Guile in SFA3 (made him comical and goofy-looking), then look at his SVC sprite. As a fan of old school 2D fighters and animation I just think the art style works very well. SNK tends to use more shades of color to round out their sprites and give a sense of depth whereas Capcom's recent sprites since Alpha (and GG's also) are flat-looking and only use a couple of shades to delineate the forms.

Sagat, Dhalsim, Balrog, Earthquake, Demitri . . . all F'ing awesome looking. We see the characters looking cool without the goofy Alpha or 3S cartoony feel at all. The characters winning portraits are very tight (much like Garou's).

Yeah, obviously graphics are important to me almost as much as gameplay. I enjoy just watching a game like SS2 even if I'm not playing just to soak in the amount of talent and effort that went into creating the game.

Especially since I've been a fan of Street Fighter for god knows how long and was pretty disappointed with Alpha and SF3, (dorky characters, too cartoony etc.) I'm really glad this game was dropped in our laps.

Does anyone else see the game and just feel shocked that it's getting no love? I think it's the best fighter to come out in a LOOONG time.

got my hands on it for the first time today...

only got one play though as it was at one of my local movies and my movie was about to start....

I beat one guy with Iori and he was Ken....that was about it. He jumped a LOT and kinda irritated me so i just did the dragon punch stuff until he walked in and caught him with a few supers....

then I had to go..

buttons arrangment felt weird though, with A=strong punch, C=light Punch, B=Strong Kick, D=light Kick....but at least the buttons worked,lol....

anyways...

I will probably pick up the arcade version when it gets cheaper. I like the fact that people don't like it...

as the price will drop fast so I can afford it ;)

imo, it didn't seem bad, but I only got one play at it

At first I was quite ho-hum about the game. I heard there was a cab with it so I went to check it out.

Man was I impressed, the game was quite good. All i can say is its time to find a way to finance my home cart of it.

I have to agree with you ^_^ I too was shocked to see the detail given to the capcom characters. I played Chunli and noticed how more fluid she looked then in SF3. I wanted this game since I first read about it. I only got to play it recently (last 2 weeks) but have fallen for it. I can't wait until Oct 9th!!! All in all I liked SNK's version of the vs series more so then CAPCOM's! I mean the first one of course. CVS2 still brings a tear to my eye ^)^

I'm also in N. Cali. What movie theater did you see SVC at? Just wondering if it's close by. I normally play at Sunnyvale Golfland.

I love the game personally, I'm glad I bought it. I'm pretty happy with all of the Capcom sprites. Only ones I thought could've been better are Bison's (SF2 boss) and Balrog's (boxer), but even then those are pretty good too. One thing I don't get is why Chun-Li has some bouce, while Mai is left stiff as a board. And Iori's Maiden Masher is a great super to catch jumpers with just as they come down you can catch them before they can block.

I was glad to see the capcom characters not getting raped like the snk characters did in cvs 1 and 2.

I like the degree of balance, shows who the gentlemen are.

One thing about the game is that the Capcom guys play almost nothing like what they used to. Earthquake too is like a completely new character.

I can rack up like a 15-20 win streak with Sagat on SF2 Champion (don't laugh because I still take SFChamp seriously) but was at a total loss on SVC and got schooled. Now, I usually win with him and really enjoy playing him. Making the jump from SF2 to Alpha or Alpha to CVS2 doesn't have much of a learning curve on characters you're used to.

You've got to get used to the way this game plays and relearn the ropes on the Capcom side before passing judgements for sure.

I didn't play it until I received my JAMMA board about a week ago, and I have to say, I am really impressed! The level of animation, while not up to MOTW standards, is quite excellent! The character choices are really neat; it seems as though they wanted to put some characters in there that aren't commonly used, which are nice additions to the staples (Kyo, Ryu, Chun Li, Mai, etc.).

I can't speak to the overall balance, since I only play it 1P.

I have said it sevaral times before and I'm going to say it again. SvC: Chaos is a very good game indeed. I was a bit let down at first since the game system felt a bit weird and a bit off but after spending more time with it and learned the nuances of the game, my opinion of the game is now very favorable. It may not be up there with the classics like Samurai Shodown II or KOF '98 but its a good game nonetheless.

I also liked on how most of the characters are balanced and that one character or company doesn't dominate the other. The only unbalanced characters are the hidden characters (minus the almighty Dan Hibiki) who are boss characters anyway so I'm not surprised they get similar prioritys to their CPU versions. The weird thing about it is that I was never good with Genjuro in SamSho but for some reason i'm good with him in SvC, I only picked him because I messed up the code to play as Dan and got him, I actually had a 3 win streak with him until I got beat by a Dhalsim user.

What the does that mean? People who are frustrated with the poor hit boxes and uneven control are not being honest?

I have been playing the game for the past three weeks and I haven't encountered any hit detection problems -- I really haven't.

Characters that used to have a longer reach (i.e. some of the Capcom characters) have been shortened (I noticed this while playing characters like Ryu, etc.), so maybe people are mistaking this as a hit detection problem?

Its got Ryu & KEn, wtf more does anyone want??

About GG n CPS3 SF, yes, the characters look bad, flat and underdetailed........no shit, id rather hardcore rough 2d detailed sprites than soft & gay CPS3 Capcom games any day

I owned the PCB for a bit, and I didn't notice anything major during single player, but I had a Chaos day where the game was played all damn day in VS mode with several friends, and that was the last day for me. I had air fireballs going through people, Sagat's leg whiffing through heads, no one would turn around in time, the control wasn't spot on (perfect for some characters, inconsistant for others), and the GCFS is too abusable.

For personal reasons: Just Hugo for a grappler? C'mon. I don't think I have to suffer some shit backgrounds just for some great ones. I also don't think opening/ending character pre/post fight animations should've been nixed for just dialogue.

With the release date getting closer, my excitement is rekindling after being dimmed somewhat by all the negativity.

Hey now! I resent those comments about SF3. I think those sprites are genious, if you exclude the goofy characters. Makoto, Alex, Hugo, Ibuki, Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Urien, Dudley, Chun Li, are some nicely designed characters, but again, this is my opinion.

SVC is going to suffer from "failing to live up to unreal expectations." No matter how good it is, people on both sides are going to complain. But I figure nothing could be as bad as CVS2.

i have found that happen on a couple of occasions but saying that the neo geo's greatest fighter samurai shodown 2 has that

many times have i used full swing with my sword and its just totally gone through the opponent and not hit them plus the fact if you are charging up it happens too which is most annoying if you get hit pretty hard then see the fighter is unblocked to return the favour only for your rage gauge to be activated so u cant even get to pull of a return move

The point is it shouldn't happen at all. We've gone through quite a few fighters on the Neo since SSII, and for this to start happening again is just bizarre.

Don't get me wrong, I think Chaos is fun, but it just seems like it is in beta form still. A few more weeks of play testing with all the characters would've done wonders for the gameplay.

The only thing gay about SF3 is the end boss. SF3 sprites kick ass :buttrock:
