Everyone's been bashing SVC since it came out. Yeah, it was a hype monster, but I only get excited about games that look cool regardless of hype. Now that I've played the game a lot I still dig it and I didn't feel let down at all.
The sprites alone are pure genius. Take a look at what Capcom did with Guile in SFA3 (made him comical and goofy-looking), then look at his SVC sprite. As a fan of old school 2D fighters and animation I just think the art style works very well. SNK tends to use more shades of color to round out their sprites and give a sense of depth whereas Capcom's recent sprites since Alpha (and GG's also) are flat-looking and only use a couple of shades to delineate the forms.
Sagat, Dhalsim, Balrog, Earthquake, Demitri . . . all F'ing awesome looking. We see the characters looking cool without the goofy Alpha or 3S cartoony feel at all. The characters winning portraits are very tight (much like Garou's).
Yeah, obviously graphics are important to me almost as much as gameplay. I enjoy just watching a game like SS2 even if I'm not playing just to soak in the amount of talent and effort that went into creating the game.
Especially since I've been a fan of Street Fighter for god knows how long and was pretty disappointed with Alpha and SF3, (dorky characters, too cartoony etc.) I'm really glad this game was dropped in our laps.
Does anyone else see the game and just feel shocked that it's getting no love? I think it's the best fighter to come out in a LOOONG time.
