Do you ever leave your homecart system running when you are not using it?

Sometimes while browsing the forums or doing somthing else in my room I will turn my Neo-Geo on and just let it run. There is somthing cool about just listening the the music in the intro and seeing the CPU go at it. It gives you that whole arcade feel. Just having the Neo-Geo on in the room you are in when you are doing other things is great in a weird sort of way. Are any of you like me? Yes, I know I am weird.

My Neo gets turned off whenever I'm not playing it, only times it's on if I'm not on it is when my bro is playing it.

This is really sad, but reading your post, I knew exactly what you're talking about. I use MVS rather than AES but pretty much same difference.

I always leave games running in attract mode when I'm not playing for a while. Not only that, I've sat there and watched games with really cool attract sequences like LB2 or Garou many times over.

I leave it by mistake because I have a projection tv, I have to make sure not to leave it running to long due to those damn credit indicators on the bottom of the screen.

My Neo-Geo has been paused for the past 3 hours, so you are not that strange! In fact, it was still paused as I came across this thread. I am staring at my RGB monitor right now, and the game in question is Matrimelee, and it is paused while Elias is suspended in mid-air. Oh well... I guess every Neo owner acts almost the same.

Yea, sometimes I can't be bothered to actually play a game, but its just nice to have it running in the background so that I can bask in the 'oldschoolness' of it all while I do stuff like surf the web.

Funny you mention this as i've been letting my MVS games just run in attract mode for the past few days. I hooked up my supergun to an old monitor (instead of the tv i play all my games on) so i see no reason to turn it off. I don't let it run too long, just until i get tired of pretending i actually have an arcade in my home...

I leave my mvs running all the time. Usually Garou or Samurai Shodown 4 are the ones running as I love the intros and music for both games. Sometimes I let my homecart system run simply so the memory card doesn't lose its info.

Honestly, I prefer to run the mvs tho, seeing as it was designed to be run 24/7. That and the fact I get better picture/better sound/ and cooler games on mvs.

Games that I have recently let run in attract mode on the home system are:
Fatal Fury 3 -I find this to be cool.
SamSho 2 -pretty annoying
Fatal Fury 2 -cool.
Fatal Fury -This has to be one of the coolest !
KOF '94 -another classic!!! I really like this one!
League Bowling -is kind of soothing.

Why not turn off the credit/level indicators in the BIOS?

About the memcard issue:

The battery of a Neo memory card has an approx. lifetime of +/- 5 years, leaving it plugged in all the time can lead to a reduced lifecycle due to additional loss of power caused by the metal contacts of the card and the card slot.

Once the battery runs out, you can either replace it or leave the card in its slot, then you can still save games while the Neo is running but the saves will be lost lost shortly after switching it off or unplugging the card.

I'm REALLY Anal...

Nah! If I'm not using her then I turn her off.... I think it stems from the fact that I don't want her over heating too much...

I did that once to my Atari XL computer once and it blew up.... :oh_no:

My memcard lost its memory not too long ago. If I don't keep the neo on for a couple hours every few days, it'll lose all its data once again.

Maybe it's a weird thing, but I often keep my Neo on too, just to enjoy attract mode... !:smirk:
Probably it's all about the same sickness that pushed us to buy a Neo...:D

No.
Waste of electricity, components do have a lifespan to them, and I'd feel guilty of having something on all the time.

I don't really, but I do leave carts in the machine for weeks at a time.

OMG widen those contacts/slots :spock:

Interesting! Kind of like when you unplug an XBOX...if you leave it unplugged for more than a few minutes, it loses its date/time settings.

I had no idea that a dead memory card can save temporarily while plugged into the Neo. Thanks for clarifying this!

Not my homesystem but I leave the cab on sometimes. Like when getting drunk, cause I know I'll just be coming back to play it again throughout the evening so no reason to unplug it, plug it back in, etc.

will this work with the home system? I don't have a bios yet, but if its possible, then I may have it modded.
