Yes kids, VF4:Evo is the best 3D fighting game ever.

I've just spent the last 3 hours playing through quest mode with Goh and I am in a state of gaming nirvana.

The depth in this game is so satisfying.

I mean, Soul Calibur 2 looks amazing and has the coolest characters in a 3D fighter, but fucking VF4:Evo plays so perfectly for a 3D fighter- I feel like SC2 is just a kind of diversion where you play for the novelty of using the super cool character models and not because you love the gameplay.

I'm now forced to move Tobal 2 and Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram to the # 2 and 3 spots respectively.

I raise my glass to you Loopz- and I hope you grow to like SVC:C some day :)

Thanks neobuyer. I need to spend some more time with that game...but I actually got bit by the Alpha 2 bug and I've been spending quality time with my Saturn ever since.

It really is an insanely rewarding experience though. I've never played a fighting game that gives as much back as VF4E does.
To overlook it solely because it's 3D makes you as much of a jackass as if you were one of these PlayStation kiddies who rips on Neo stuff because it looks dated.

Now, VF4 regular version isn't any different than Evo other than additional modes and updated graphics, right?

They didn't change play mechanics or add/take out moves did they?

P.S. - VF4 is easily the most involved, complex fighting game ever. Have yet to play VF4:E because my brother took the PS2 to college.

I really should spend more time with VF4/EVO, they're fucking fantastic titles. Anyone that refuses to give them a try just because they're 3d is a fucking knob.

I agree with you on Tobal2 too neobuyer, that game had an awesome grappling system, I just wish the juggles had been toned back a tiny bit. Not quite to tobal 1 levels, but just a bit to cut back on some of the 100%s. Why can't dreamfactory make games as good as the Tobal series anymore? :(

-EDIT-

GML, they did alter some mechanics. You can recover roll from pretty much anything now, preventing totally free ground-hits. There are some other changes too, but that seemed to be the one that affected my game the most from 4 to evo. Movelists were refined too, I've heard some jeffrey players bitch, but I'm mainly a wolf/goh man so I haven' noticed much.

I agree totally. VF4evo is fucking fantastic. There's just so many moves and what not. It's super DUPER deep. Too deep for its own good, to be honest. There's almost too much in this game, and normal Tekken/Soul Calibur fans just won't be able to see it, since this is an anti-button masher's game. You can pull off HUGE beatiful combos in this, but you have to know what you're doing, unlike some games.

And Goh is the collest character I've played in a long long long time. He's so damn cool looking/playing/sounding/etc. Akira's still the man, but Goh is badass along with Aoi, Jacky, and some of the other designs.

What a great game. Deeper than the ocean.

You know what I love about Goh?

At first, you think he looks like a badass and that he's a character that you'll want to play. But then. as you start your standard VF type moves and experiment with his style and you start to think "This guy has no moves" How bland. But then you start to realize, "Hey wait a minute- he uses Judo"

And you start learning how to play him and you start falling in love with his style.

You CANNOT button mash with Goh- you MUST learn digital Judo to play him.

And here lies VF4:Evo's strengths- It is so deep you may never experience it all.

And the kicker? It only costs $19.99 at most American stores.

Well, number one, Quest mode completely destroys Kumite mode.
Throw in the two cool new folks, Brad and Goh.
Entirely new soundtrack (plus the old tunes are unlockable).
Much nicer, fixed graphics and tons of new items to get.
Characters have changed quite a bit, some moves added, changed, and deleted for everyone.

Given the super cheap price tag, it really is a must. Trade in your old one, pay the $12-15...its so worth it.

I've been with the series since the beginning and I must say evo is pretty tough to top. The main attraction for me is Shun Di. Come on, a drunken boxer...how can you beat that?

I so wish I could try VF4, but I don't own or want a PS2. VF3TB on the Dreamcast will have to do.

So odd. Me too. I hooked this up in my cabinet this weekend and just decided to really learn Sakura. Man, I started getting deeper into the Alpha system and trying really hard to master that reversal, but I am finding that i am not too sure about how to start it. Anyways, Sakura is a bit more complicated (e.g. deeper)than I initally gave her credit for.

Guy still whips my ass in this game. Also got to give major love to the Final Fight stage :buttrock:. Is that Hugos first Apearance in a fighting game? Birdies stage still cracks me up with the guys on the john.

VF4 evo is is a combination of awesome graphics and character models(more complex than SC2.Look at their clothes flow), cool music, deep gameplay and cool extras.

There is just so much you could do with just 3 buttons...
