Not me! I'm buying a Neo Geo cart soon and gnna spend a hell of a lot of money. I tend to brag about it. I talk about gaming all the time. I've gained lots of respect from hardcore gamers and the gaming gangs down at the arcade.
I prefer respect from fellow gamers than trying to make normal people except me. Fuck those people! I have a gaming addiction, I've slightly lost my mind, and damn proud of it!

Bunch of crazy ass gamers who go and hang out at the arcade all day long every weekend. There's the Fighter guys, SNK/Capcom player. Then there is the gang "The DDR Freaks". They hang around playing DDR all day. I just started hanging out with the fighter guys.
They're not a gang like street gangs, but a group of crazy gamers. I hang with the fighters cause they're 2D freaks like me.

No, I'm not ashamed. But I'm not out to impress the gaming public at large by running my mouth 24/7.

I don't really run my mouth, but when me and other gamers get talking, we tend to talk for an hour or 2. And its always kool to meet someone else who actually knows stuff about gaming and actually knows what a Neo Geo is. I mainly enjoy talking with the 2D gamers. 2D is just so much more superior to 3D IMO.

Everyone needs a hobby, just because gaming happens to be yours is no reason to be ashamed. I'm like Buro though, it's something I do in my spare time, not something I try to impress people with.

All my friends are aware of my addiction and they don't mind it at all. They have their addictions which could also be considered wasteful and shameful.

Such as: shoe addictions (100+ per shoe, per week), car stereos, big rims, clothing, and marijuana.

I couldn't agree more.

Definitely not ashamed. I get a kick out of it when I have guests and they see my Neo and freak. Some know what it is and freak out over the fact that I have one of the uber gaming collector items, others are just baffled by the monsterous cart size. When they ask what did it cost you, then they really freak. I always put it this way. See those $100+ shoes your wearing, or that stupid $100+ shirt, well I like to spend $100+ on video games, namely god-like Neo Geo games :buttrock:

I’m certainly not ashamed to be a gamer, but I know that sometimes I could be doing more productive things, like taking a jog, or studying for school. I admit, im not the best at video games like some of the "experts" around here, but I really enjoy playing them. My friends have seen my collection and are like wtf?, but they don’t talk trash about it. I only spend about 2 hours a week playing games right now with school.

Not ashamed, but I think there are only three people in my day to day life that even know I own a console.

i'm not ashamed of playing games.
i'm ashamed of how much i SPEND on games.
but like the roker says other folk just waste their money different ways.
my m8 mike often buys 2 pairs of the same nikes at the same time.when your talking £80 a pair then that is a lot of money when you buy about 2-4 pairs a month.
i'm a videogame and weed addict he's a trainer and weed addict .
not much difference really.
i'm lucky to sit across from another gamer at work so it's not too bad.
he just can't understand why i would play neo geo, saturn d.c and ps1 games than some soldier sim!!!!!!
i tell him the only reason i would get an xbox is so i could play teh romzzzzz and that pisses him off:buttrock:

Most of my mates dont know what a Neo Geo is, there are really only 2 of my good friends who 'understand' why I play 'old' games.

I always try to educate my mates/ workmates but not to the point of ramming 'my' hobby down their throat.

Most of my mates smoke so I usually justify the money I spend (not that I need to) by saying to them my whole collection is probably the equivalent of what you have spent on fags in the last 15 years. :) That always pisses them off. :)

Dont be ashamed of any hobby/ interest you have (as long as it doesnt involve touching children etc).
:shame:

True many of my friends don't understand why i still play '2D' games, they think i'm poor lol.kind of the same effect when i go on about classic and older films....you just get the reply 'it's dated'.

Many don't know how much it costs or anything. But the amount they spend on shite CD's,weed and clothes is just of much as i spend on my MVS.A few semi understand but i'm not ashamed at all.I don't brag about it but it's the same as people playing the guitar or football imo.

Everyone has a 'hobby' so deal with it i guess.

Why was this post even let out of the spam factory? :spock:

j/k

I started a new job 2 weeks ago, and within days of getting to know my cooworkers in the lab I work in, they picked up on my VG interest (b/c they saw the neo-geo.com forums at lunch), I talked about games, and then days later brought in a copy of AOF2 to show them the monster carts. They know I love games. They are older, have families, and the only games they remember are old Atari stuff, and maybe Doom/Quake.

I told them they need a life and buy a system but their wives won't like that.

I live in a 390 sq ft studio apt, and I don't have to say a word about my games or gaming to impress with my MVS cab sitting in the room. The smaller the room the more 'big' red stands out. MVS cabs are sexy beasts.

That's the same for me. If you ask to most of my friends, they will tell you that I don't play video games. I don't hide this but my friends don't share this hobby so I don't talk about that.

The reason I asked this question is cause I know a few morons who won't talk about video games and hide the fact that they like games just so they seem cool to other people. And it really pisses me off. I never try to change myself to impress people. Hell, I'm the nutcase in the arcade wearing a top hat, spiked bracelets, a chain, and a Mario Bros. t-shirt. Its impossible for people not to already think I'm weird.

I'm Ashamed... Please hand me my suicide gun...

For me, I don't talk about videogames to other people if I know they are oviously oblivious with it... But I would if they do know anything about it...
