OK, I have both a us Turbo Grafx deck and a JPN Turbo Duo. What exactly do I need to play my US HU Cards on my JPN Duo???

You need a converter, unfortunately the ones to play usa cards on jap machines are very hard to come buy, and expensive.

From everything I've read there are no converters for US>Jpn. Only for Jpn>US. I could be wrong about that though.

You got it.

There is a converter called the Kisado that allows you to play JPN Hu-Cards on an Americian TurboGrafx/TurboDuo that runs about $100 but I hear it's much more expensive to go the other way. Basically it's a whole lot cheaper to just buy/use a US TurboGrafx.

Hmm, it looks like even the Kisado converter will be harder to find as it looks like www.tzd.com isn't even carrying them anymore.

Well, I've got a solution for you....

But first to answer the question, no converter exists to allow play of US HuCards on a Japanese deck. And the Kisado is quite expensive, usually $150 if you can even find one. The Mirai converter (red) isn't that reliable either.

The solution I have for you is a modded Duo! One can install a switch in the Duo (either a US or Japanese one) to allow play of the other regions HuCards! The cool part is if you have a US Duo, you can use the Arcade Card Duo to play all of the PC Engine Arcade CDRoms, like Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting.

Where might you find a modded Duo you ask? Well, look no further than right here! I install a push button switch, much cooler than the slide switches you'll see other selling. I've provided modded systems to The Chief and Conrad Hart on these forums and I'm in the process of sending one to k'_127 as well.

I'll mod your deck for $70 shipped back to you.... I mod Duo's and US Turbo Grafx decks as well! (By the way, if anyone's interested, I have a couple of modded US TG-16 decks ready to go....)

PM me if interested (sorry if I derailed/hijacked the thread a bit, but it's related....)

hmm.. i haven't had a TurboDuo in quite some time so I don't remember everything clearly...
but the TurboDuo I bought was from a local video game store and I bought both US and JPN cd's for it that both played just fine without having to get any seperate 'converter'.....
I remember i had the US "Gates Of Thunder" and some japanese paper, rock, sissors game where the computer would gradually strip each time you won.. (who gave me that naughty game! for shame!)..

so I take it either I got a system that had been modded or the US system doesn't require a converter?

Both US and Japanese CDs play fine on both US and Japanese systems, but it's the HuCards that are region specific.

You can play US Hucards on a Japanese console, you need any standard converter, plus you need to modify the console internally;

1 pin on the Hu6280 must be lifted from the board (5V) and tied to ground instead. Check around somewhere there is a FAQ that explains this.

And, yes I'm sure it works, I've done it on many consoles, including the LT.

Will this work with the Duo RX consoles also?

Yes It will work, all PCE consoles have the HU6280, even the SUpergrafx, I have tried it with a SGX also.

Devilman beat me to it. I want to recall that back in the day on the Turbo mailing list they had a thing written up explaining how one could play US games on a Japanese turbo. Honestly though, even if there's a way you can, it's cheaper and a much smaller hassle to just get a cheap TG16 unit.

I've got a question for D-Lite, I somehow ended up with 2 Turbo Duos and your offer to do a system mod sounds rather tempting. I'm curious to know if you have any experience with replacing the battery in a Duo?

to play US hucards on jap system you need a converter...

the WH-301 works well and is fairly cheap. It will also work with a PCE GT after removing some plastic molding.

I totally forgot about the hack Devilman78 pointed out, but the long and short of it is you still need to hack the system and use a converter.

I don't really like the WH301 converter that much but all converters are somewhat useful. In general, the Kisado is the most reliable of all of them. There have been problems reported with the Mirai converters and Arcade Cards. Also, the Purple Barney one I have sucks in general.
