When did you stop finding it odd/ troubling/ certifiable that you were happy to spend $350 on a single game?

I still get a slight judder when I do but I don't turn it over in my head for weeks before hand anymore. It probably took me about three such purchases before it started to feel 'normal'.

That said, I'm still aware it's not normal - I really don't talk about prices when I'm with non Neophiles.

I think about 6 Months ago when I decided I wanted a AES Metal Slug 1....

I think after that... EVERYTHING seems relatively cheap...:drool_2:

To be honest no game is really worth that much to spend on especially considering these much more powerful machines sell better more highly advanced games for ten times as less and some neo geo gamescertainly aint worth it

However i seem to waste my money like lots of other people, i cant explain why though

I remember when kof96 came out on home system and raven games had it for 300 pounds and at the time i never had a credit card but really wanted the game and i begged my mum to use her credit card for me
after alot of pleading she did it but said to me if your father ever finds out about this he will go loopy paying that much for a poxy game,

hopefully i can use the patientce to wait for showdown zero to drop below 300 dollars on mvs before i take the plunge as impatientce usually gets to me first.

It's all about what makes you happy. If one $350 game brings you more joy than 6 or 7 PS2 games, than it's worthwhile.

I've never been worried about validating my purchases with anyone (except my wife, of course). :) I've only brought a few Neo Games new. The rest I get used from eBay.

Personally, I'm only doing it once more (for SvC Chaos).

I tend to convince myself it's OK with the old "when the shit hits the fan I can get most of my cash back" routine. Which is true of course, unless you're buying a brand new KOF, the cart will maintain most of it's value. Besides, it's only the equivalent of 6 PS2/Xbox games which will be worth about $2 each 1 year down the line. And no, I never tell my mainstreamer friends what I've paid for a game. Not only would they not understand some would probably find it quite offensive.

I agree that its worth it if its worth it to you. So far the only game that is worth that much to me is SVC: Chaos. I have to have it. Ive been playing Street Fighter since 1991, and been heavily into SNK fighters since 1999. So to me its worth it.

I think this is the only Neo game that I will personally feel is worth that much though.

Most gamers wont understand. And if you explain to them that you just spent $358.05 on a new 2d game for a 14 year old 16 bit piece of gaming hardware they'll look at you like your from Mars. Then laugh and mock you. So I find its best not to mention the price outside of the Neo community.

Not compared to a gastrotrich. Speak for yourself, I'm Hindu. Yeah, no thanks to the breakdown of the Gold Exchange Standard. The man sleeping on the Main Street T-Stop bench with Wonder Bread bags as shoes says the same thing.

I've set myself a limit on any videogame I purchase: 100$/€. That's all. It's the maximum I've ever spent on a single one. That's want of the reasons I can't touch the AES.

Anyway, if you are going to have A LOT of joy and playing time in a single game, I don't see it that bad to spend 300$ on that one, as long as you don't want it just for "collecting" and not playing. It's just that I wouldn't do that due to the lmit I imposed upon myself.

In any case, you must take care that you could spend 500$ in 10 "regular" videogames anyway.

And by the way, my friend Takuman in these boards buys the new MVS games just on release for more than 1000$... Now THAT is crazy, as those prices drop very quick in a matter of weeks....

When I see that people spend big bucks in stamps or dolls, I'm okay with buying a neo game new.

It's all about what it means to you and how much "entertainment" you are actually going to get out of the game.

This is the system I use for neo geo games:

If I think I can play the game enough for it to "pay for itself" (at a quarter per continue) then I buy it.

I would never buy an authentic Metal Slug 1 U.S. because I would have to play it some 10,000 times before I actually got all the play value out of it.

Doing the math... you would have to play just over a dollar worth of Metal Slug 1 every single day for the next 6 years to finally "pay it off" in playtime.

I'm not saying that's a bad problem, it's just a little too much.

On the flip side, video games are the cheapest form of entertainment in the world if you think about it. It's always there, you have access whenever you want, and it's still fun.

Kind of like your personal hooker.

Play on.

That is my thinking. I will spend the money, but if I need money later I know I can sell the game for damn near what I paid for it and not lose out like I do on Xbox/PS2/GC games that lose value so quick and then I go to sell it after paying $50.00 and it is worth $20.00. That sucks! And because it makes me happy! Everyone has their hobbies and collect things. Neo is my hobby!

You know the best definition of money?

It's nothing, if you don't spend it. And it's nothing, if you waste it.

The paper itself is not "money", it's only a "title" for it. Money represents and amount of work or goods, easier for trading.

I agree, after about 3 or so new priced games, it isn't a big deal.

One of my goals in life was to get Super Dodge Ball on cart before I die, and I accomplished that. When it was available, I didn't even bat an eye at the $400 price tag. It could have been double the price and I wouldn't have cared.

SNK vs Capcom is the same way.

I was really miser when I first started with my NGH sys, but now its really getting out of control. Honestly, though, my $230 for MS3 and $150 for LB were well worth it. Funny thing is now, I look at the new releases for Xbox/GC/PS2 and the $50 is like chump change for me. Kind of disturbing when you think about it :oh_no:

Thats a good way to look at it.

I figured that when I played SF2 in the arcade. I regularly went to the arcade, probably twice a week or more, for at least 2 years steady. Spending an average of $3.50 per visit... Thats $728! And I think thats a somewhat conservative estimate :loco:

Yeah, I dont feel to bad about putting down $358.05 for SVC:Chaos now. I know it'll pay for itself. :smirk:

Ive spent $500 on Neo games within one week! (Bought Last Blade also). I think that my limit for the year. Unless I find some older game I want thats dirt cheap (like $40). Im pretty satisfied now though. Ill have 6 really good Neo games that I love. Not bad for my first year of Neo collecting/playing. (I collect AND play! Hard concept to grasp I know  )

ouch, $300+ sure does hurt the old wallet. but i have done it now for metal slug 3, svc chaos, and motw to name a few. here is my justification. your figure that along a long enough span of time, most mainstream videogames end up selling for like $5 (or less) i am talking like genisis games and even playstation now. so, when the are old, you are looking at them being worth about %10 of their original value. ok, so a geo game costs $300. most old geo game go for at least $30 on ebay. most more. so, that right their is your %10. so in reality, these games cost essentially the same, at least as far as money spent to ultimate resale is concerned. its funny though that i use that as my justification, as i never sell any of my game stuff......
