Hi all,

I was wondering if you could help me out. I noticed about a week ago there was a "Kizuna Encounter" on ebay. I saw that someone posted that it was a conversion cart. I have been collecting games for a while now ^_^ I must admit that I have not heard the term conversion cart before. I was wondering if someone could shed some light on this subject for me.

It is the guts of an MVS cart stuck into the shell of a home cart and then accessorised with all the relevant inserts and cases.

It's not real.

Just to clarify a bit more for you... the cart IS real in the sense you can touch it, it looks good, and it will play in your neogeo the same as an officially released cartridge.

It just means that it isn't an official SNK home cartridge. People chopped up parts and put them together in a way that will look nice on your shelf and will cost you substantially less $$ than the "official" cart. Just fine if all you care about is being able to play the game... as long as they did a competent soldering job on the chips.

Ahh Thanks all....

I just have one question then.

How are you to know what is and is not a conversion cart?

I mean what if you see a "Metal Slug" on ebay going for $500?

Should you bid or think that it is a conversion cart?

Sorry but I am confused. How can we complete our collection

not knowing if that cart we have been looking for only turns out to

be a conversion?

Usually a convert will not include a manual. If time is taken and a decent manual is created, nothing short of actually opening the cart and checking the rom boards will ensure that you have a real cart or not.

Seriously though, I don't think anyone ever perfectly replicated a manual, and 99% of conversions have no manual of any sort.

I should also add that almost all conversions are limited to certain games. Any game which is extremely expensive (over $500) or MVS only is at risk. Anything else is not. The one game to watch out for is Metal Slug 1. The following games are MVS only, off the top of my head: Twinkle Star Sprites, Shock Troopers, Super Dodgeball, Zupapa, Nightmare in the Dark, Puzzle Bobble, Ganryu, Prehistoric Isle 2, Captain Tomaday, Flip Shot, Bang Bead, and probably a lot of others, though I can't think of them all. Try looking at the master list...

Twinkle Star Sprites had a Japanese release I think.

Here's how to avoid buying a convert:

1 buy from a good seller, get references FIRST

2. if it's too cheap, it's fake.

3. get high res up close shots and post them here and get opinions

4. keep a level head and don't let the momentum get you

5. makre sure everything is included and get a WRTIIEN assureance of any game that expensive being real.

do those things and you'll be fine.

Guys, use the MASTER LIST for this stuff, it tells you exactly what format games were released on and has links to pics of the different OFFICIAL carts for all Neo games.

Oh, sorry guys, I had never seen a real TSS home cart. I've seen about 5 conversions before and that's it.
