Holy hell....thats exactly what I need.

I didn't think anyone even made an affordable component switcher let alone one with that many inputs, plus digital optical inputs.

I would like to have seen at least 2 more optical inputs, but for that price? Shitttttttttttt.

My question is: Does the component section in it have enough bandwidth to pass HD signals without degrading them?

If so, then that thing is a hell of a deal.

That is a pretty slick switch. Right now i have a cheap one that can take 4 inputs. It only accepts stereo RCA, composite video, and S-video though.

I do the same thing. Except I also have a 4 input optical switcher.

You can run component through a regular 3 rca switcher (marked for composite and stereo left and right) but its only good for up to about 480p. Once you go beyond that and enter into HD territory, that isn't going to work for you anymore.

Thats why I am curious if that switch can actually handle HD signals.

Even if it doesn't, its still a steal.

It's a straight multiplexer/switch. The only thing that causes signal loss is the quality of the innards.

You'd have about the same exact quality loss from a good quality component video switch than you would through say a standard KVM switch you'd use for PC's. It's almost the same signals essentially and the video signals you're sending through that are of potentially much higher resolution than even the highest HDTV standards today.

Rule of thumb, if you're going through something that does the switching electronically (aka like a reciever, and it uses a digital IC to control the switching) as opposed to a manual "switch' type device (read cheaper pelican switchers you'd find at Gamestop, etc), then the internal loss will be less.

That thing does look sweet, although if it does 5.1 Fiber switching I'd be mighty impressed that shit is supposed to be mighty expensive.

It is interesting this was brought up, I saw this just the other day. And last night input number four died on my 5 input Pelican, not sure if I will buying one of these again. I remember some time back, Ascii made an excellent multi A/V selector, and I think it had 6 inputs, one on the front? Does anyone have or know where I can get one of those???

gratias tibi augo!

:D
