We all know how pointless they are, especially _now_ as they really do

mean

nothing

Peoples counts are all over the place, some are correct, some aren't.

I'd rather have the member number displayed than the postcount.

I'd rather have neither than one. When taken in conjunction with one another they almost have meaning, either one in isolation tells you nothing.

I'd be in favor of dropping the post count and leaving the registration date. Just because a person has a shitload of posts doesn't mean squat. I've seen people rack up 1000 posts in a couple weeks. Doesn't mean they know more than anyone else, probably just means they're full of shit.

Someone joining the day the forum opened to try and find out the difference between AES and MVS and posting for the second time today doesn't pove much either. Both taken together gives you the begining of a measure. Meh, it's all rubbish, I think this is where FTL's custom rank idea about knowledgable members comes in really.

You're probably right, never really thought about the fact that there are alot of members that would appear knowledgable based on the fact that they have been registered a long time, your example proves that idea wrong. I hadn't heard about FTL's custom rank idea before, it sounds like something that might work pretty good. Beats the hell out of judging one another based solely on post count. What are the chances of having the MODS put ideas like this up to a vote?

Personally, I would reset EVERYBODY'S post count to 0 right now, so we all start from the same place since this update. No more "Oh the horror, I'm losing post counts" threads.

We've had more than 10 of those threads already.

well it's damn near impossible to remember everyone's post counts now..
so either leaving it be, getting rid of it altogether, or whatever are the options.

It's pretty sad when people cry about losing their post counts. Who gives a shit really? Two sites that dont have post counts like snk-capcom and SRK do fine without them. So we should SERIOUSLY look into it.

Here's the thing that happened.

VB personally counts up your posts from each regarded forum and that is your post count now. A lot of people posted most of their shit in the warroom or unrelated. unrelated gets truncated every few months because of volume. So if you made 2000 posts in unrelated over 2 years time, in a frequent fashion, roughly half would be unaccounted for in the vb switchover.

So its an uphill battle for posting? Like if I went away for a bit, I'd come back with less posts? teh suck.

But I lost about half my posts and I would say most of my posts (90%) were in the Market. I never posted in the War Room. Just curious!

This is bullshit lie, reduce that 13k to 9k :shame:

If the post counts are staying, surely they should be correct for everyone

or just get rid of em.
