Sam2 and Sam4 were definitely the best. 1 and 3 were like beta versions, while 2 and 4 were the sharpened versions.

1 and 2.

I didn't like 3, and 4 is a very good game, but IMO it lacks the tight controls and funny moves of the first two episodes.

My absolute fav is 2. Shin Samurai Spirits forever!

Indeed I own a US SS4 and I say when it comes to gameplay it is fair and it has a lot gimmicks to offer.

Choose Ukyo in SS2 and do his "no escape combo" and everyone will change his mind about SS2.

Too sad, most people do not know how to handle Sam Sho 4.

For me that would be:

1) Samurai Shodown 2
2) Samurai Shodown 4

and if you want to know where the rest fall out:

3) Samurai Shodown 1
4) Samurai Shodown 3

Most people agree that 2 and 4 are the best... i have to agree. When it comes down to it... ill play SS4 over any in the series. SS2 still holds a place in my heart...mainly bc i put alot of money in the arcade machine!

SS2
SS4
You can argue about SS1 and i don't even know this "no escape" combo in SS2 (not the one i played the most) but SS4 is only a better (should say perfect) SS3.

3????? Threeeee?????

Where you need just 2 hard slices as counter hit to kill your opponent but 15+ Senpuretsuzan i.e.? And with the worst intro and endings of all Sam Shos!

You know it amazes me whenever Samurai III is mentioned, the damage is always the 1st thing that's brought up. I fired up Samurai I and II this past weekend and saw some pretty short rounds in those games. The Samurai series has always been plagued with damage control problems. Even Samurai IV did little to fix it. I rather liked Samurai III's intro and endings, but different strokes for different folks.

Yeah but, in case of Sam Shoe 3 this is really extreme!

The 3rd has also the worst handling!

And is the least funny one!

1. Samurai 4
2. Samurai Spirits 64 II

4 had the deepest gameplay of the 2D versions. Warrior's Rage is deeper and more balanced than 64. The most stylish chapters were 3 and 64, but they don't last as long.

Samurai 2 I will never understand, almost everyone gets off on this game and every time I see it or play it I fall asleep.
