I fear that my Dreamcast may be going out. I am not positive, but it seem to be very loud. Is there any way to replace the fan or remove it? If I remove it, how long until the Dreamcast burns out? Anyone else have this problem?

I don't know if this might help but I have the same problem with my PC. There's a little fan on my motherboard that makes alot of noise. Although I haven't tried it yet, I've been told that by peeling of the sticker on top of the fan and then lubricating the fan's motor with a tiny drop of motor oil(not the black stuff) might help.

If the fan isn't running at all, you shouldn't use the system. Lack of cooling will cause chips on the mainboard to fry. If the fan is just noisy, either lubricating it or replacing it should help. I'd call a local game shop to see what they charge to fix/replace the fan, and if its reasonable go ahead and do it!! Since DCs can be had pretty cheap ($50 brand new), you don't want to spend a lot of money on a repair . . .

DC's are cheap right now.

Worst case scenario is you drop 50 bones on a new system and a new controller. If your DC is on the fritz, buy a new one sooner than later (on ebay USED DC's are selling for 80+ dollars)
