Playmore have been at the helm of Neo Geo development for 12 months now and all we seem to be getting in terms of new games is rehashed brawlers and sequels.
The only exception to this has been Metal Slug 4.
Kof 2001 and 2002 have really added nothing new to the series, and I think it's safe to say that many fans just want the series killed off now. It's past its sell by date and then some.
We don't want to lose many of our favourite characters, and there's no reason why many of them cannot be taken into a new, fresh, franchise.
Nevertheless, Playmore seems to be prepared to produce KoF 2K3 and 2K4... a move I don't really welcome because you can only flog a dead horse so far.
Metal Slug 4 received a very mixed reception, it wasn't very original and offer nothing new overall. MS5 is due for release latter this year, and although I do like platform shooters and I am a big metal slug fan, I hope this is not going to become a yearly ritual like KoF. I hope MS5 will be awesome... I odn't want to see a MS6 - at least not for two or three years.
Rage of the Dragons is totally unoriginal and quite dull. Made a nice break from KoF but it's just another brawler at the end of the day.
And what else is on the cards?
Well we've got Matrimelee (another brawler) coming very very soon, MS5 (already mentioned above), SvC: Chaos (very much anticipated, but still another brawler), Sam Spirits 5 (... I'm not sure about this, but still another beat em up) and more KoF's (bah)...
OK, the Neo is reknowned for one on one beat em ups and has some of the worlds best in its software catalogue BUT that's not all the Neo can do!!
Sports Games
Shoot 'em ups
Platformers
WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THESE GENRES ON THIS SYSTEM????!!!!!
We haven't seen a sports game since Neo Geo Cup '98 (unless you count Bang Bead) - 1998
No shooters since Strikers 1945+ - 1999
No platformers since Zupapa! - 2001
I mean if Playmore just want to rehash franchises then how about another Super Sidekicks game? Brezza brought out a footy game for the Crystal system, why can't we have a new footy game on the Neo??
2D shooters are still very much in vogue, and the neo has some of the finest 2D shooters out there. Why can't we have a new shooter? Blazing Star 2 or Last Resort 2? How about another Shock Troopers game????
The neo can provide so much more than one on one beat 'em ups, so why the hell can't Playmore do something different, or dare I say it, O R I G I N A L
I'm really looking forward to Matrimelee and SvC, but this system needs something to keep it fresh or else it will go as stale as KoF has.
Capcom have asked S-C.com to run a poll to see what Capcom fans would like to see next (and there's a company that can only rival SNK for brawlers yet still provides titles from different genres) - why can't Playmore do the same here?
I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'd like to see something different for a change
Baseball Stars 3 anyone?
