Playmore have been at the helm of Neo Geo development for 12 months now and all we seem to be getting in terms of new games is rehashed brawlers and sequels.
The only exception to this has been Metal Slug 4.

Kof 2001 and 2002 have really added nothing new to the series, and I think it's safe to say that many fans just want the series killed off now. It's past its sell by date and then some.
We don't want to lose many of our favourite characters, and there's no reason why many of them cannot be taken into a new, fresh, franchise.
Nevertheless, Playmore seems to be prepared to produce KoF 2K3 and 2K4... a move I don't really welcome because you can only flog a dead horse so far.

Metal Slug 4 received a very mixed reception, it wasn't very original and offer nothing new overall. MS5 is due for release latter this year, and although I do like platform shooters and I am a big metal slug fan, I hope this is not going to become a yearly ritual like KoF. I hope MS5 will be awesome... I odn't want to see a MS6 - at least not for two or three years.

Rage of the Dragons is totally unoriginal and quite dull. Made a nice break from KoF but it's just another brawler at the end of the day.

And what else is on the cards?

Well we've got Matrimelee (another brawler) coming very very soon, MS5 (already mentioned above), SvC: Chaos (very much anticipated, but still another brawler), Sam Spirits 5 (... I'm not sure about this, but still another beat em up) and more KoF's (bah)...

OK, the Neo is reknowned for one on one beat em ups and has some of the worlds best in its software catalogue BUT that's not all the Neo can do!!

Sports Games

Shoot 'em ups

Platformers

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THESE GENRES ON THIS SYSTEM????!!!!!

We haven't seen a sports game since Neo Geo Cup '98 (unless you count Bang Bead) - 1998

No shooters since Strikers 1945+ - 1999

No platformers since Zupapa! - 2001

I mean if Playmore just want to rehash franchises then how about another Super Sidekicks game? Brezza brought out a footy game for the Crystal system, why can't we have a new footy game on the Neo??

2D shooters are still very much in vogue, and the neo has some of the finest 2D shooters out there. Why can't we have a new shooter? Blazing Star 2 or Last Resort 2? How about another Shock Troopers game????

The neo can provide so much more than one on one beat 'em ups, so why the hell can't Playmore do something different, or dare I say it, O R I G I N A L

I'm really looking forward to Matrimelee and SvC, but this system needs something to keep it fresh or else it will go as stale as KoF has.

Capcom have asked S-C.com to run a poll to see what Capcom fans would like to see next (and there's a company that can only rival SNK for brawlers yet still provides titles from different genres) - why can't Playmore do the same here?

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'd like to see something different for a change :)

Baseball Stars 3 anyone? :D

There is that new puzzle game coming out, but I suppose that’s really a game for Neo hardware rather than a Playmore developed title.

I’d love a new shooter, if only Treasure could be persuaded to do something. How hard would porting Bangia-O be?

But yes, getting excited a new fighter is not to tricky once a year, but three times in a year is more than I can manage.

i would love another puzzle or sports game

i would be extremely happy with Windjammers 2, Neo Turfmasters 2 and Baseball stars 3

Maybe even if Playmore could do a greatest hits cart, try to fit a couple of the older titles onto 1 cart, if the board themselves can only hold maximum 700megs - i'm sure it would be possible to maybe fit a couple of the mega shock titles :)

Well, I was attracted by Neo Geo when it was first released because of its fighting games, namely because of AOF.

The Neo would not be what it is without brawlers, more specifically 2D brawlers, and I do not think I am getting wrong if I say that the majority of neo fans prefer fighting games to other gaming styles.

Honestly I like the neo because of the fighting games, and in fact I would like to see more beat’em ups on it, or at least another one as great as Streets of Rage, Final Fight or Golden Axe were when released.

Notwithstanding, I certainly would like an improvement in the quality of the games that should come.

ROTD is a nice game, IMHO much better than the bad tongues like to say, it could have been a jewel if more effort would have been putted when doing it.

MS 4 is quite a shame after seeing 3, a nice game but it is just a mere rehash.

Sengoku 3 is also not superior to 2, even worse IMHO, because it lacks deepness.

I agree with you about KOF series. I have said before that I think that its face should be washeds or let them die. It is like Dragon Ball, at the beginning it was great and then they did not know how to make it continue, so the plot was more and more ridiculous and its quality decreased a lot.

So, I am not against more fighting games, but I am certainly against milking old franchises, they should try to create a new one.

Honestly, I do not think that nowadays neo geo could offer anything to the fans but great 2D fighting games, beat em ups and some shoot em ups. Competition is very hard in other fields and there are other systems to go play this kind of alternative games.

Baseball Stars 3 could be the exception that confirms the rule, certainly a great game to dream with.

@ Pep - yes, the neo certainly needs to carry on it's great tradition of 2D brawlers, but NO MORE KoF's!!! Stale, stale, stale, stale, S T A L E

I'd like to see a new sports title, a new puzzle game (Magical Drop 4 :D ) and a new platformer (Zupapa! 2 or Spinmasters 2) and how about Last Resort 2? spock

....hehe, I was going to leave that quote alone and just do post count +1 again

but your post is right on the money. I agree so wholeheartedly, I would love to see some different types of games. But they're only sticking with whatever is going to make them bank. i.e. KoF for the Asian market and Metal Slug for everywhere else. (who wants to bet that most of the sprites will be recycled again for Metal Slug 5?)

I'm sick of fighting games in general, now. I was into them hardcore and used to be a rabid KoF fan, but '98 was the last good one and has been crap ever since. SvC Chaos looks good, sure, but it's just another fighting game. They really think no other genre of game is profitable these days? I still see people around here regularly playing Neo-Geo Cup '98 at the arcade. When done well, sports game can bring in people wanting to play.

There's not much else to say that hasn't already been said, so I'm going off to sleep, to dream of the Shock Troopers: 3rd Squad that will never be. (then again, Shock Troopers was Saurus anyway, did Playmore get the rights for their stuff too?)

Personally, I would like to see a Mutation Nation 2. That game was pretty cool and I have always wanted a sequal. Cyber-Lip needs a sequal even more. If you have played Cyber-Lip and have seen the ending, you know what I mean. A Top Hunter 2 would be nice as well.

YEA, NO SHIT!

Playmore, quit it with the fighters, and give us platformers, shooters, maybe a real football game.

Wish List:
Finish Magician Lord 2!
Shinobi/Ninja Spirit-esque platformer!
Sequel to SNK's Iron Tank and Ikari Warriors/Guarvara!
Port P.O.W.!

Sigh... I like the fighters on NEO yet at the same time I feel cursed that I could appreciate the NEO more if I liked fighters as much as shooters/platformers.

I never understood the concept of sports games surely if you want to play a football game you buy a football. More fighting games for me please I cannot wait for SSV and KOF2003.

BEAT'EM UPS ,particularly KOF is why the Neo Geo is still alive.I'm all for whatever Playmore feels they need to do to MAKE MONEY but I just wish they would put a lil' more effort into putting out a quality product and stop soley riding off the popularity their early titles help create.
With the above being said,I would like to see a good wrestling title on par with Wrestlefest or even the same gameplay of a 3 Count Bout BUT with more characters and better designs. The only sprite designs I like in that game are Red Dragon,Terry Rogers and Roy Wilson.I would mention Master Barnes but that design needs an edit so it does'nt look like a grandma with no teeth in the face :D How about the announcer with the Top Hat and the bland looking audience?? That needs to be changed as well.. heh.

baseball Stars 3 might come.

Let's just pray for that one.

I couldn't think about a better non-fighting game.

Except turfmaster 2 maybe..
But making a sequel to that would be just like matrix reloaded imo.. Couldn't possibly be better then the original.

Why not make a poll or something along those lines about which kind of games all of us would like to see released in the future?

That could be then sent to Playmore, so that they are aware of the real wishes of the fans. Yes, I know, they won't pay any attention to it.... But, it doesn't hurt to try, does it?

wink

Well, yeah I don't suppose Playmore will release anything they think they can't make money out of... but there's still a big following for football and baseball in Japan.

Konami have always done well with Winning 11 and Let's Make A Baseball Team... plus Breeza did Evolution Soccer - they wouldn't have made that if they didn't think there was a demand for footy games... just a shame it was produced for a doomed system.

2D shooters are still popular too - especially vertical scrollers. Look at all the shooters the Naomi platform has produced, of which a fair few came from Capcom. I'd love to see a new Sonic Wings style game come out :)

I'm positive an update of Ikari Warriors would do very well too :D

KoF maybe the reason the Neo is still around, but that's no excuse to flog it to death (sorry, that's alreadt happened  ). Playmore should take the rosters and do something new with them... I dunno... Queen of Fighters perhaps wink

Oh baby, if Playmore makes Queen of Fighters, Playmore can take my house! I'd stick my sex in it and not leave the arcade ever.

how about a sengoku done right, 3 was way to boring it was the same 4 enemies through the whole game, how about one that has different enemies each stage,

how about Magician lord 2, come on you telling me that this is a dead Idea I've seen post after post here asking for it,

How about porting street smart from the reguler arcades to the neo or making a new one

how about a neo action adventure, simuler to zelda, lets get a few dungeons with the chance to save some totaly babalicious princess

how bout porting ganryu to the aes, and fallowing it up with a second installment

there are thousands of ideas that playmore could do

if they would only listen to the fans

I agree 100%. Although I love the fighters on the system, I hope Playmore realizes that NEO*GEO had other offerings as well. Hell, when I read about the possible upcoming "SNK Collection" disc, my first thought was "Wow, why doesn't Playmore simply remake some of these oldies but goodies?" A new Ikari Warriors or Guerilla War would be ace!

I would defiantly like to see a new puzzle game. A shooter wouldn’t be bad either because we all know the best shooters are 2D.

Let's face it, the Neo Geo platform is too dated (even by 2D only standard), producing anything but low-res 2D fighters (with a decent size following) is about the only viable (financially) choice... I wish they would make other kinds of games b/c I love the Neo Geo and all of its 2D glory, but sadly, not many people see it that way. Perhaps they are justified.

They should deffinatley turn their attentions elsewhere for a few titles.

Why on earth was there never a button mashing athletics game??

/////////they could gaive us something inteteresting like a mario party style game featuring SNK's classic characters.

id be happy to just see fighters but thats just me of course...

i think the sports /scrolling fighter sitch is pretty clear... 3d is where its at for those categories i would say (from what i see in every arcade ive been to here anyway...) no matter how good a soccer game for example i dont think anyone would really bother with it if it wasnt 3d and on par with segas efforts. virtua striker is still very popular as is that card game soccer manager game or whatever it is..

scrolling fighters is basically spikeout which despite coming out in like 98? is still very popular (it is a focking awesome game though).

puzzlers and to a lesser extent shooters are still quite popular and dont need fancy 3d graphics to be popular so... maybe playmore will do another puzzler sooner or later?
