Garou 2 -- An inevitability?

It seems like Playmore is really beginning the "let's start reviving old series and properties" kick. It's pretty obvious that they're going to get to the FF series eventually.

I'm not really sure how successful Garou was, but it *was* a critically acclaimed fighting game. (best fighting game for DC -- 2001, for example)

I would imagine that since it's got name recognition (Fatal Fury), it *was* announced several years ago before SNK folded, and Playmore has said there's many projects on board right now, that Garou 2 just seems like an obvious choice for the next sequel or at least one of the next ones.

I'm thinking though, they would probably roll it out 1q or 2q of 2004, as it looks like it's probably the next "open" space to squeeze a game into, as 2k3 would come out at the end of this year and if they follow their release pattern... it would mean March of next year, or possibly June. SamSho5 has to come out and get some spotlight, so probably in june.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Well, definitely that makes sense, however I would rather prefer to see FF4 than MOTW 2 or RB 3.

I'd love to see another Garou. Love it. BUt i'd rather see an AWESOME SHOOTER.

Hopefully they'll notice they're once again becoming the popular game...at least this year.

Not flaming, but you should consider that neo geo is an arcade, fighting based system so....

However a tennis game with arcade/snk flavour would be great, like windjammers, dunkdream, or baseball stars 2....mmmmm....

Not flaming, but you should consider that neo geo is an arcade, fighting based system so....

Well the Neo is very good at fighters, but it can handle other genres without any problems. The follow are non fighters that I consider great:

Bomberman
Drift Out
Shock Troopers
Pulstar
Blazing Stars
Aerofighters 3
Windjammers
Nightmare of the Dark
Puzzle Bobble
Magical Drop 3
and many more!

Given the chance, the NG can have many great games!

And I'm sorry, they should stick to fighters, it's what they do best. The rest of the genre's really are better suited to other systems.

I was referring to a direct sequel of FF3. MOTW and Real Bouts have a different style, they are not like the previous Fatal Fury series.

In fact, the best would be making another fatal fury that would gather the best of FF, RB and MOTW.

I am all up for a shooter... or a music game... hehe I know we couldn't do it, but man, I would love to play cool cool tune on the MVS... seriously... Actually... it could be done! I think Matrimelee proved that... and without the fighting game logic to worry about, give Noise Factory something sick to do!

Wouldnt that kind of conflict with the story lines? Unless you age the rb and ff characters. Or underage the motw characters. wink

Yes, I also would prefer to see a brand new Fatal Fury IV with a great 1-player mode with story-line a la FF3. Keep the classical characters (Terry, Andy, Joe, Mai, Blue Mary, Kim...) and then add some new more. And make a new plane-switching mode.

And about making one that mixed chars... That would be cool too, just like a Dream Match, and I don't care if the story-lines collapse or not... Just make one without a story, as KoF 98 and 02 or RBS and RB2. Make Rock fight with young Terry ! buttrock

I hate to be the one to say it, but I like the Neo for much more than just fighters. Fighters are just the cherry top. Why? Everyone and their brother does fighters, there are dozens to choose from. More than 1 or 2 from one company a year is too much at this point.

They need to do other generas that they are good at as well. Shooters are one of them. Hell contract Cave to do a shooter for them. Resurect what is left of Psikyo and do Dragon Blaze II. Get Technos to do a beat'm up. I would rater see Magical Drop 4 than a new FF.

I know that there are many others out there that agree with me.

MOTW 2 would be a godsend, I bought my MVS because of the first, and to see a sequel would be freaking great.

I guess I've still yet to hear any of the arguments for the side that hates MOTW, personally I love it, but I also admittedly am only average at fighters. Average is I can beat MOTW on MVS difficulty with usually 2 or 3 continues.

I guess I had another question having never played Fatal Fury Special, I was under the impression it was an update of sorts to FF2, like Metal Slug X to 2 am I wrong in this? Because to me it would seem that the next FF would be 3 just because itd be odd to skip a number even if Special was technically the 3rd unique game in the series.

Fatal Fury Baseball, or a ne geo universe baseball game. Seriously, super moves in a sports game would be excellent, plus all the story lines that are all ready there. Maybe it would have to be done on another system though. Realistically, a Fatal Fury game with all the elements of rb, motw and the original sounds great. How about AOF? Does anybody give a rats ass about world heroes?

One thing I have noticed is that no one has mentioned creating a new series. I don't see that completely being beyond Playmore's grasp, although it definately wouldn't have the instant market appeal that a Samurai Showdown 5, Metal Slug 5 etc. would. But even SNK had to start out somewhere.

Get off that crutch of previous licenses Playmore even ROTD and Matrimelee are semi-sequels.

Thing is, Playmore is baking on these established names at the moment to collect more capitol. and hopefully, they can hire more people, get better programmers, and start making some new shit again.

The lost all of their momentum, and its going to take careful steps, and heavvy franchise miling to get back on top...er..middle. whatever.

You know.

Anyways, keep making 2d fighters. Dont waste your time on anything else. That is what other systems are for.

And for christ sakes, dont worry about high rez.

I'd be down for anything BUT a fighter at this point. I'm hoping SNK vs Cap will be enough to tide me over for quite a while in that genre.

I'd LOVE to see another beat em up or sports game.

How about a Neo Hockey Game? Or a much better and well deserved Neo American Football game? Or a better Neo Car Racing game?

Cyber Lip 2? Nam 2? Dunk Dreams 2?

The fighters are getting stale in my eyes, SNK vs Capcom should be enough to fill *MY* needs for a while...
