I don't think this is a recent development.

I remember reading this months ago, even before they released the first run of home carts for the game.

Still is great fun though - I wish they'd do this for all their releases! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

I bet they will do this for later releases, now that the NeogeoFreak mag is out of commission. Used to be that the interviews with the game makers ended up in the magazine...

Yea, I remember that "interview". I got some good laughs out of that one. That was put up on SNK's site back in July of 2000, about a month and a half after the first MS3 home cart release.
