Shawn, short and sweet, I love your site and I have fun on the forums, met alot o f interesting people and made a few friends. Unfortunately, to many people (dealers and collectors) miss use the guide and I feel it should be taken down.. If you agree please post on this topic..peace

This has been posted everywhere in this forum and recently too, please consult older threads (particularly in General Discussions) for more on this tired debate.

Short answer, like the War Room, he isn't.

The fact that “too” many dealers & collectors use the guide, for whatever purpose, is reason enough to keep. I’m all for a revision though, email suggested changes anytime.

I remember a lot of people asking for either axing or revising the list awhile back and you came back with an answer stating that there was no such need for this.

What changed your mind?

He prolly got gouged by some goober who insisted that $150 was a fair price for a used copy of "Twinkle Star Sprites".. Afterall.. the "Official" guide lists it at that price. Ofcourse, you always have the option to go somewhere else, since on the used arcade market,(NOT "collectors" market, but operators market) most distros can't give away their old neo-crap. Thats not to say that NG isn't a good system. Hell, its the best 2-d system that will prolly ever be made. However, it just doesn't earn it's floor space on location anymore.

I'm only speaking regarding the MVS price guide.

When I first bought MVS carts, I didn't know the difference between the low and high price on the guide. I then decided to go to kits and used the high price as the guide for kits, but it still didn't seem accurate. I then emailed Shawn and he updated the MVS price guide to now reflect the fact that KITS are worth more than the high price, which is true for the most part on the guide.

Keep in mind that it is tough to accurately give a range for the kits, because depending how how SNK distributed it's games, i.e. there's much more puzzle games released in Europe than there is in the U.S., so for a game like Pop 'N Bounce, it is considered very rare here, but in Europe, it's not as rare, therefore you can buy this game much cheaper in Europe than you can here. Notice all the European sellers posting no U.S. Ebay. It's because they know we can't find certain titles in the U.S. and they'll make more from us then from someone in their country. Vice-versa.

Ah, so he adjusted the price up on your request. Mighty white of him! Considering I got my copy of Twinkle Star Sprites for $15, I wonder if he would consider a downward adjustment.. Ha, didn't think so! :P

SURLY BOB'S UNBIASED NG PRICE GUIDE!!!!

**games I have for sale!**
TSSP $500
World Heroes Perfect $280
Metal Slug X $450

** Other games! **
Waku Waku 7 $10
Metal Slug 3 $20
Money Idol Exchanger $15

People have been doing this with trading cards and comic books for years. However they usually don't get to pretend to be an "official" company distro.. I wish I was a domain squatter back in the day, dammit. I thought the internet was just a passing fad and people would switch back to BBSes though.. Owell.

Surly Bob,

If you read the price guide carefully it does say that it's "just" a guide to give you a somewhat ballpark figure of what you should expect to pay for the game, NOT exactly what you should pay for it.

Furthermore, if any of you out there collect sports cards, you should know very well that the popular sports price guide published by BECKETT is beyond inaccurate for their prices. Each card is marked up at least 30%, mostly 40-50% on the average, so the guide here, I'd say is pretty accurate.

If there are so many experts out there with prices, what system should we use to determine the prices for AES Japanese, AES U.S., MVS carts (loose, with marquee, complete kits, etc)? No one else has come up with a solution. The prices for AES are high, yet most ending Ebay auctions for certain AES carts are pretty close to the price guide, so I think on the most part the guide is very helpful. If anyone else has a better solution to determine EVERY price of EVERY single AES and MVS game, please post your thoughts here.

I once found a cart price in the real world that was pretty far off from the price guide here. I emailed Shawn. He adjusted it. He has always welcomed feedback and updated price spottings...

Hey Shawn thanks for the reply..I Know we are the largest group of neo fans online, and Im proud to be part of it..but too many people miss use it..alot of auctions refer to your price guide as a basis of all neo stuff .the bottom line is that your guide predict the prices in the world of comics and toys their is numerous resources to get prices together. when I first started collecting die hard video club (here in NY) had like 20 copies of ms1 in their store. Now this is suppose to be the rarest game? What happened to all the copies? Is NY the largest base of MS1? I used to work for game express and we had a copy or two sitting around in the store. DO we know actual productions run? Its hard to have a great guide if we the fans dont know how many copies are available.
Bottom line is certain dealers use your guide to figure out prices and I m not in it for the money but it screws up everything for the collectors and gamers..
Final word, is we cant have a guide without knowing how many copies are out..and how do we the fans judge whats going up in value? By judging ebay auctions? Half of those things are so fixed....It s a joke ...I would just love to see it disappear.
Listen Im not busting your balls either..I m happy u sold the neo stuff at the prices you did.,.Its life, I work at KB and before PS2 game out we jacked the price up it was due to highe r cost, shipping charges and we knew we could get more cash for it..retail chains fo it all the times so more power to u bro. If people cant deal with it (the neo system) to bad... or the costs of pockets game being so cheap? Well hell Im happy you have them and their is a source for us to purchase some new stuff. Listen take care Shawn, Just please respond to my emails when I send them to u directly..
