I want to take a moment to recommend the !Arcade! Ultra NEO modifications to all AES enthusiasts. I got my system back from them yesterday and could not be happier with the results so far.

I have my system hooked up to an MAS 25" RGB monitor and the picture is just as good as MVS. I used to get an annoying shadow on some of the images with my previous set-up. After the modifications, the shadow is gone and the images are clean and sharp to a tee.

The new stereo sound adds a new dimension to the games as well. I had the music from Metal Slug 4 blasting through my speakers yesterday and it never sounded so good. I am very excited to see how the rest of my games sound with the new stereo sound.

I did not try the S-Video output but I expect that to be stellar as well since it is based on the RGB signal.

Finally, the AES video and sound catches up with modern times, and yours truly could not be happier.

Glad to know I'll be getting a great Neo for the money - I'm buying one too. Already partially paid for it.

They truly are nice! I got mine some time ago when they first came out. Very, very nice indeed.

I poked around on arcade's site and didn't see anything about the ultra modifications, although I have read about them some here. What did those mods set you back? And also, did your system have previous generation mods done on it before having the new ones performed?

I specifically asked them to take an unmodified near-mint console and add the new modifications to it. I did not want to add new mods on top of old mods. This also saved me the cost of having to ship my system to them. I can now sell my old system to recoup some of the cost associated with doing this. So, to answer your question:

1 near-mint console with 240K serial number
2 power supplies

$499 plus shipping

It is a bit expensive but not so bad considering how much money I have tied up in my AES collection.

Funny, I just emailed !Arcade! about this, it's $200 for the three new mods. I'm sure they are nice, but that's a little out of my league, at least for now...

are these mods from arcade that much better than the one jmkurtz does? i mean $90 vs. $200 and if you cannot get rgb like me in the us is the s-video the same as if jmkurtz does it vs. arcade.

Jeff Kurtz does great work. I had three systems modified by him in the past. The problem though is that the old way of doing S-Video on the AES is dependent on the revision of the video board on your system. Of the three systems I had modified, one of them gives outstanding video which I kept. The other two produced washed out colors and overly pixelated graphics so I hawked them on eBay.

On the otherhand, based on my understanding the !Arcade! mod adds essentially a new daughter board to your AES which is responsible for the RGB and the the dervied S-Video so the result should be the same regardless of the revision of your system.
