Bought it off eBay from this guy -

Had enough problems finally getting it here (he claims shipping delayed a week because his parents were getting separated).

Here's the insides:

MS4 Label - Has some kind of holographic reflection. Looks official. Black Case.

Can anyone tell me for certain if this is a bootleg cart?

Looks like a bootleg to me as well.

Between no SNK/Playmore logos anywhere and numbered chips in white. I'm also willing to bet that in that last picture, the 2 chips that say ROM2 on them are EPROMs (probably have a 'window' on them that's covered by the sticker).

The auction description says "a copy of Metal Slug 4". Maybe this was his way of saying that this is a bootleg? I'd just contact the seller about this. He has 100% positive feedback so he can't be all bad. wink

I very much doubt that what he meant by 'copy of' was literally a non-original cart. I've listed things on ebay before and used that phrase and had emails asking me if the item is a reproduction or not. The phrase is more commonly used for printed materials, such as 'a copy of the latest arcadia magazine'. This doesn't mean it's actually a copy, it just means 'one piece of' or whatever.

Anyway, the cart is a deffinate boot and by the quality of the workmanship could even be an aes conversion. Just contact the seller, be polite and say the cart is not an original and you feel as though you have not recieved what you paid for.

The worst thing in the gaming industry is bootleggers, of which he most certainly is. Make no mistake, this is not the first time a bootleg has come from that guy.

I think I'm going to do that. Technically, I got it from his Mom (Carole's Collectibles) so she'll be in some deep shit too. I already told chemical that when I recieve the cart (and as long as it's in working shape; bootleg or not at least I can still play it then) he'll get a refund. I'm pretty pissed about this too, since (from the outside) it really looks like a legit cart. It has a holographic label and everything. I wonder if he took a legit cart and demolished it? It's next to impossible to dupe a holographic label and as much of a dick as Japhei is, I don't think he's that level of a bootlegger.

I think Japhei doesn't engage in bootlegging maybe, but he definitely has proven to have suspect stock. That's just as bad, his source sells him the bootleg stock and then Japhei does the distribution. It's just like the drug dealer is just as guilty as the drug source. In any case, this bullshit has got to stop. This guy has proven repeatedly that he scams people out of money with his bootleg carts. very_ang

His own friend, when trying to defend him, told us that "Japhei likes to bootleg but knows better than to try and sell them to you guys!" or something to that effect. I can always dig up that thread again...
