Why do some people scratch off the Neo Geo MVS Serial numbers from the box's and carts?

This has been answered a lot of times, just make a search... It's because it is illegal to sell them across borders so you scratch the numbers in order to prevent them being traced back to its origin. Kinda like when you change the license plate of a stolen car.

Yeah it sucks but i use to only get the carts labels scracthed, i never seen it the other way around and have the number on the box kit cut off thats just an unsighly sight.

Thats another reason I don't see the allure of complete kits... I guess I'm just not a true collector.
