Hello,

DD was the first Neo game I ever played, back in 1996 I was a wee wipper snapper in Luton airport banging away on the DD arcade machine. I have a small MVS collection that is growing bit by bit and have recently been offered DD for £25, should I buy it? Is it as good as I remember? How do you rate the game?

My Current Collection:

MOTW
Waku Waku 7
Samurai Showdown 2
Last Blade 2
Street Hoops
Windjammers
Metal Slug 4
Burning Fight
Soccer Brawl
Rage of the Dragons

Double Dragon on the MVS may not be the game you remember. Its a fighter rather than the more famous beat 'em up of the same name.

You can certainly get better fighters on the MVS (you already have many of them) but sadly there aren't any scrolling beat 'em ups that match the other Double Dragon (to my mind anyway).

There was a thread about the best scrolling beat 'em ups last week, nothing too hot in there.

Cool game with a nice engine, double-jumps, overall passable charas, some good graphics/backs (I really love the arcade stage and the one with the waves), funny music and a good range of moves/supers per chara. Not the deepest fighter, but overall it's a good game IMO.

Is that 25 pounds for the kit or the bare cart?

Heck yeah. There was a thread about how great it was in Gameplay awhile ago, that sparked my interest, so I tried the ahem, well, the you-know, the... anyway, I played it and was quite impressed. The sprite size and such reminded me of AOF2, and the backgrounds were quite beautiful. I'm thinking of picking up a homecart copy someday...

It is a great game. I like the combo system,
the characters and stages are cool.

My personal favorite stage is the one where you
are fighting on top of the airplane, very nice
game overall.

Thank You,

Jorge

it's a fun game, just don't expect too much/take it too seriously. £25 sounds a bit steep though if it's a bare cart - I think I paid about £6 for mine (albeit with a yellowed label and scratched casing).

I think that this game is highly underappreciated , although loosely based on the DD movie "wich sucked" it is a smooth fighter with great play control and a nice balanced character lineup .

I think this game is a MUST for anyone who likes Neo Geo fighters .

Only thing that should have been left out of the game are the screen caps from the film including the small video clip in the intro and the images on the large TV in the arcade stage (((I get ill everytime I see Alyssa Milano with short white hair)))

I never cared for Double Dragon as it was made on the Neo as a "Fighting Game"... I always thought it have been better if Technos had just made the ultimate side-scrolling brawler with intermissions scenes ala' Ninja Gaiden, and mulitple paths with differing endings. But that's just me. Some of the characters look cool though.
