It's a little soon to know, but I might be selling my whole collection and moving to LA. I just wanted to ask the neo community a few questions.

1. Do you guys want my arcade machines at a fair price?

2. Can you come to State College PA to pick them up? Does anyone know about shipping from a home from personal experience?

3. Does anyone on the board live in LA, or know anything about how hard it would be for a programmer to find a job out there? Any help with moving from you guys would be GREATLY appreciated!

It sounds crazy, but I've become involved with a girl in LA, and I want to be with her. So...that means getting me and all my belongings to LA and getting a new job. It also means selling anything that won't fit in my car. Any help you guys could offer would be great! Also, I don't know anyone aside from her in LA, so if you LA people would want to invite me to the next get together, that'd be great!!

Just to be clear, I'm just trying to get a feeling for how hard this move would be.

Thanks in advance!

I want your games, but I don't want them for a fair price. I'd rather get ripped off.

Seriously, what other games you got? I may be interested.

Nruva lives in Virginia now because the East Coast is better than the West Coast.

I have:

1. Neo Geo Candy 29"
2. KLAX Cabaret (JAMMA)
3. TETRIS (needs a power supply)
4. Pac-Man
5. Capcom Dynamo (Originally SF3, now SFA2)
6. Final Fight (JAMMA)

I also have a MAME machine, but I'm not sure what I'm doing with that. My uncle built it for me, and I might feel a little strange about selling it.

Again, I was just wondering how hard these would be to unload in a hurry if it comes to that. I've heard the Job market is a real bear on the West coast and I'm still trying to convince her to come to the East coast.

It is true, NRuva is currently on loan to the East Coast, time unknown at this moment. It is not really hard for a programmer to find work in LA if you have some decent experience... don't expect a scrub job, there are a million of people just out of school and they seem to get all the local junior/intern spots.

Also... I am guessing you have no idea of what LA costs... if you want to live on the West side, near the 10/405 split, to avoid a big commute in the morning then expect rent to easily cost $1000-1200 a month. On top of everything else costing more than anywhere else in the country. I would recommned that if you want to live alone to aim for $60,000+ and you will still have to be careful of what you spend... I speak only from experience my friend wink However, that area is an absolute blast to live in. If you are interested send me an email and I can help you find places to stay... I know the area on that side very well.

So basically, if you have a decent resume, you are still not as desirable there as somewhere else in the country, but you will have a good chance of landing a job. If you are fresh out of school, expect to be dirt poor and working at a resturant or begging for change on the promanade very quickly wink

Oh and if you are doing this move yourself, I just spent nearly $8,000 making the trip back over to the East Coast... of course that was payed by my employeer who transfered me for the time being (a year at the moment)... and I believe when I did the trip from FL it was closer to $5,000... but it is expensive to move... the trek alone will kill a 4 cyl/6 cyl car if you push it to hard. This time of year the desert is brutal on the engine... so, take it easy especially with the big load or you are going to end up killing the car as well.... Damn, there are so many things I could tell you about this move, honestly... it all depends on what you want to do. I can't say I don't like Los Angeles, but it is deffinetly not an easily place to live/work... Let me know if you need anything or have any questions,

I love it out here. Tech jobs are pretty plentiful still, but not as avail as they were before about 2000.

I wouldn't live anywhere else. Except maybe Hawaii (Oahu).

Let me know if you have anymore q's about LA or the West Coast. I'm a native (born and raised).

Neo-Mike and Nruva, Thanks for all the info about LA, that's just the sort of things I need to know about if I decide to make this move!

rhiohki, Thanks for the suggestion for shipping. They look like just the sort of service I'd want to use. As for more detailed pictures, I'll post these in the 'Selling' forum if it comes to that, and each one will have a full description and many pictures.

Right now this is more of a 'How much is my collection worth, how long would it take to unload, and how hard is it to move to LA' topic, that's why it's not in the Selling forum already.

As for everyone asking what things cost, I was sorta hoping people might suggest what they'd be worth. I know I got my Pac-Man for silly-cheap. It's in fair condition on the outside, and plays perfectly. As for everything else though, I don't really know how to price them. I just paid whatever people asked. The Candy has the brightest and nicest screen of all of them, mostly because it's new. All my machines play perfectly except the Tetris. They all also have very nice screens.

If I can't convince Christy to come to PA, and these all end up in the Selling forum, I'll go with the highest bidder that can get it out of my house before I have to move.

Thanks to everyone who's given me info on jobs and moving. I've never even been to California!
