I am debating purchasing MOTW for the Neo AES System. I have heard wonderful things about this game but have not played it. (Even on the DC)

My question is, what makes it so fantastic?

- Is it the animation? (cause I used to own AoF 3 and that has wonderful animation, horrible game even though the series is what addicted me to the Neo. AoF 1 is still my fav!)

- Is it the gameplay? (Does it play like the Kofs or the Real Bouts?)

- Does it have a good character selection?

Just wondering if MOTW is really worth the $400 to $600 people are asking for it. I really want the US version for collectors/rarity sake so if you know of anyone that is looking to get rid of it, please let me know!

MOTW is indeed wonderful

the animation is great and lucid best on an SNK fighting game so far

The game play is diffrent from both K.O.F and the real bout it has a new T.O.P. system which adds to the deph of the game

the game has an excellent cast if you ask me (altough i could live witouth Tizoc)

Overall MOTW is an excellent game worth of everybody's collection

GO FOR IT !

MoTW is one of the very best neo geo game.

Animation--> one of the best (or the best?)
Gameplay---> equal to KOF, better than RB
C Selection> medium, but everybody is well balanced

If you're a collector like me, get the cart!

I was unimpressed with Garou and sold my copy recently. I think that money is better spent on KOF 2K if you don't already own another KOF game.

Why not just buy the DC version to see how you like the game? From what I hear, it is an outstanding port. Actually the graphics were enhanced, apparently the pixellation is far less noticeable.

The import is out now for $53 from NCS, and the U.S. copy is due out any day now, courtesy of Agetec.

I do have the U.S. home cart, purchased at release. Apparently, not many at all were made, unfortunately. Were it not for the DC version, it would have been a great candidate for re-release, but that will certainly never happen now.

As for the game, it is outstanding. Fantastic animation, very cool effects from attacks, perfect control, and some very cool characters (my favorites being the Kims). Would have been nice to have a few more characters to choose from (has only about 12 not including hidden chars) but still a fantastic game.

No I don't
I just have JP version for my collection, and I have no doubles.
Nikke used to sell one for cheap ($420?)
but I think it's sold.

I agree with what Chimpmeister said about checking out the DC version first if you have access to it. If it's as dead-on as I've heard it claimed, then it'll be less risky than gambling on the overpriced Neo Geo version. If you like the DC version, then go after the Neo Geo MOTW.

Personally, from where I stand on MOTW, I was really disappointed. If you listen to all the hype, there's a good chance you'll be believing (like I did before I bought it on MVS cart) that it would be the do-all end-all of fighting gmaes. But honestly, I think it's an easily forgotten game.

There's no denying that it's got some of the most beautiful graphics you can feast your eyes on. But as far as fun-factor, it is lacking badly in the intensity department. It just "plays slower" than what you'd be used to if you get spoiled on a steady diet of Real Bout's or KOF's. Some of characters are nicely designed (like Rock and B. Jenet), but the others aren't exactly ground-breaking or anything you haven't seen before. Thirty year old Terry is interesting (at least he finally dropped that vest and cap for once!), and his Buster Wolf move is very cool. Sadly though, he's no where near as fun to fight with like in the Real Bout series because of the slowed-down play mechanics. I find myself using a lot of basic moves to survive rather than using special moves and then having to pay for them.

For $400-$600, forget it! I spent around $125 on the MVS version, and while I don't feel ripped at that price, I still feel like the game could've been so much more than what it is.

I guess an easy comparison would be using Samurai Shodown and Last Blade as examples. KOF and Real Bout=Samurai Shodown, and MOTW=Last Blade. It's got the extra eye candy and nice animation like Last Blade, but if you want more fun and better control, stick with Samurai Shodown. Just my opinions of course...

I agree with Lou.

Sure, the game is beautiful to look at, but I really find it rather... well, boring... when it comes to actually PLAYING the game.

I don't care too much for the combo engine (too much reliance on "break moves" to get any good combos), and many of the characters are just pale imitations of other well known SNK fighters.

Like Chimp, I bought the U.S. home cart when it was first released, and while I don't regret the decision in the least, I do find myself only playing it occasionally when compared to many of the other Neo fighters.

I tell you, it's worth every penny...for the MVS or DC version. $400 is too much for any game. The animation is great. The Gameplay is better than KOF to me. Characters are just great, although there is no where near as many characters as KOF, but they're so damn cool.

Peace

i don't own an AES system or anything.
i have the game on DC and had waited a year for the chance to play it.
it was worth every second of waiting.
GAROU is maybe my 2nd or 3rd fav. game of all time.
that's my word.

The game looks great, plays great, but is to short.i like it alot but there are many other neo games I play much more...including much older games like fatal fury special and samurai shodown 2

I paid 90 dollars for my mvs and think that was money wel spent but.... I would not pay 400 for a aes copy, not even 250!

I'm getting the DC US copy of MOTW when it comes out this month hopefully. I still enjoy playing it at the arcades.

I would think twice about buying Garou for DC. I have it, and yes the graphics are the same as on the Neo. Loading times are longer than games like Capcom vs SNK 2 and SF3:3rd Strike. The really annoying part of the game is though, the sound is about 1 second out of sync. So, if I was to hit you with my character you'd hear nothing initially and then after a second (maybe a little less) you'd hear my character and then your character. On www.gamespot.com they said that it grew on them, but I think it ruins the game. I'll stick to my Phantom and Garou on MVS.

So please try out the game before you buy it!

Garou is great imo - the graphics are about the best seen on the Neo Geo, and as far as I'm concerned the gameplay is very good too... I dunno why some people knock it.

As for the DC version, I tried it out, but I am gonna be getting the MVS version soon instead, as I want the whole collection of FF games on the MVS. One thing about the DC version though: there is a small prob with the sound on it, as sometimes you'll do a move and the sound for it will come out a few seconds later, as they are streaming everything off the disc or something (you can hear the DC's laser seeking a lot). Some people say that it only happened on the pirate copy that is floating around the 'net, but I've heard it happen on the legit copy too. It doesn't happen all the time, but it's annoying when it does.

I also prefer the music on the Neo Geo version compared to the DC's "re-done" soundtrack... but that's just me I guess

I found that it seemed to lack in the charecter select. I play it a lot with a couple of friends and about half of the charecters go unused. Maybe its just us.

Its slower than a lot of the recent games but still a lot of fun.

The sounds problem happens with the legit copy of the game as well. I have that version. The DC is constantly loading samples off the CD, that's true. It's weird though, as it doesn't do this with LB2. I think it was released as a cheap way to make money.

What I would do in your case; Buy an !Arcade! cnvertor and then get MOTW for MVS. That saves you a lot of money. And you get the same game as someone that paid $600+ for it! (Suckers)

Garou MOTW's rocks! A masterpiece in the midst of my Fighting Game Collection.

Unique Characters... Freeman is just plain fun to use.

Sure it has less characters than King Of Fighters, but its Quality of gameplay, and not Quantity of characters that makes this game standout.

Sure people are unhappy that they didn't include more of their older favorite Fatal Fury characters in it, but personally I'm very happy. A new cast is always a breath of fresh air.

Don't dish out so much for the AES, get the MVS, or be happy with the DC version.

The main reason people might not like this game is their lack of people to play it with. You need human competition. Get your friends, if you have any after hybernating with your Neo Geo stuff for so long, and have at it. This game incorporates brilliant 2d graphics with brilliant gameplay.... can it get any better?

Some people say its too slow, when in fact I think the speed is just right. If it gets to fast you have another button mashing Guilty Gear X (Yea I like GGX, but the speed of the game kinda cut it off at the knees at times and favored a button masher). I've played quite a few good Garou players and found that when I'm button mashing I GET DEVISTATED. This game incorporates patience and strategy... you can't go in flailing your fingers on the buttons cause any good player will read that like Neo reads the matrix and cut you down to size...

Well, thats about the most I've typed in any post here.... guess I felt like Garou deserves it.....

I'm holding onto my copy for now, Kenny. But seriously, either buy the DC import (out now) or the U.S. release (in two weeks) and try it out at least first. You'll have a good idea of whether you want it or not, and will have only invested about $30-$50 to find that out . . . worth the price!

And of course there is the MVS cart, can be found for $75-$100 . . . great if you have a cabinet, or supergun, or even MVS adapter.

Here's the deal. I have access to the US copy (Perfect & Complete) and I'm just about ready to buy it. I know the price is insane for it but it's not like the value will drop more than $50 to $100 bucks, right? I can deal with that, especially if I hold on to it for a while. I look at it like an extremely LONG rental.

I mean, geez, I remember a few years ago when Metal Slug 1 was worth $500 or $600! Now look at it, it has easily doubled, maybe even tripled in some areas. I want the US version, and according to the price list, (I am not talking about price since I have heard it is manipulated) it is a rare game (US version). It's not like SNK will reproduce it again. So in reality, I have little risk in purchasing it. Honestly, I think most neo Aes games hold their value, if not, they go up! What other video game system does this? Also, look at the new releases. Shawn indicates that only 500 Official US copies were made for Metal Slug 3 & Sengoku 3! That's nothing! That's 500 for the WHOLE World. Now tell me that those 2 games won't be worth any money in the future. My S2000 is a limited production vehicle and they make just over 5000 a year and I felt special when I bought that!

I own a good variety of systems. (Sega CDX, Sega Nomad, Neo Geo AES, Neo Geo CD Front, Neo Geo CDZ, PlayStation 1, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, Nintendo, Sega Dreamcast & maybe even more...) I used to own just about everything that came out after the 8-bit nes (Atari Jaguar, 3D0, etc..) But then got out of the collecting phase. My most prized possesions are my Sega CDX with 90+ complete games (and I am not talking shit like all the maddens & nhls), Sega Dreamcast & 50+ games (DC is easily one of my favorite systems), & my neo. I could care less if I had any of the others. NONE of them hold any value like the neo!

I have thought about purchasing a Phantom and will most likely buy one too. But there's just something about adding one more complete, minty AES cartridge to your collection! It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to see a row of authentic carts on my entertainment center! (I know, I'm gay)

Well, if any of you read this, please respond and let me know if I'm f*@#ing crazy by doing this or if you think it's a wise decision.

BTW, when did Garou come out for the AES? How much was the cart new & has it steadily gone up in value since it's release? (I bought a brand new Neo AES in 1993/94 and got out of it in 98; now I got back into it so there is 2 to 4 years that went by that I know nothing about)

Any info would be great

about the DC version:
putting the music on AST would screw up the voices even more.i play it on OST where its less screwed up.the sound effects and graphics are same as teh MVS version.the load times are OK.in story mode the game loads fast actually, although not as fast as the arcade version.
