I swear they look for NO qualifactions to become a game writer.

I posted something there. I doubt they'll remove it but in case they do here it is:

Utterly absurd.

Why listen to Beethoven when you have Backstreet?

Suggesting that older games have no redeeming qualities only fuels this current fire that consumes most casual gamers. That Graphics Is King.

I have a degree in multimedia, I'm a card carrying member of the IGDA (Internation Game Designers Association) and I will tell you that Gameplay is King.

If you are unable to enjoy Combat for the Atari 2600, that's fine...you in NO way shape or form are qualified to write articles on the merits of video games at what should be regarded as informed source, such as this website....even in the form of an editorial.

How many people do you think write articles for Der Annalen Der Mathematik who aren't fluent and respectful of mathematics?

They just don't get some guy who graduated with a degree in communications.

Once again, along with the ignorance that has spawned at IGN and Daily Radar we get Eurogamer.net.

Why listen to Beethoven when you have Backstreet?

There is an inherant beauty in simplicity. A video game is supposed to be fun. I can site a handful of PS2 games that are little more than hardware demonstrations.

I'm only 22. If I were wishing to be 18 again...then your point is not very well illustrated is it?

Also I'd point out that most Neo Geo players consider themselves "retro gamers"...I assure you...we do not balk at the price of Devil May Cry when we're paying $300 for Metal Slug 3.

Then again, maybe we appreciate a well crafted game that can produce a thing of beauty on an "underpowered" piece of hardware. It's frankly amazing what they can accomplish with such limited resources and takes a profound imagination to do.

An imagination that I perceive you to be devoid of if you don't see the beauty of two white bars hitting a small block back in forth.

I weep for the media if you represent them.

God damnit...every time I read it it pisses me off more.

I swear to GOD I wish I had some contacts like MMCafe so I could make my own god damn site.

I have no problems with the money or the resources. I just can't get "news" or review games.

Actually have qualified people reviewing games.

None of these idiots who say that "Black Belt Fighter is the only 2D fighter on the horizon for the GBA" where there's Tekken, Guilty Gear, 2 Street Fighter Games and KOF.:IGN.com

None of this "Rayman for the Jaguar didn't have arms or legs because the Jaguar couldn't handle the polygons". aily Radar.com

There are NO qualifacations to work for these places!!!!!!!!!

I have an itch in my belly... right around the Missle Command, and adjacent to the Ms. Pac-Man itch... If I could get my hands on the guy who wrote that article...

Some of the classics were on Atari: Missle Command, Asteroids, Megalomania. Nuff said

First off, I want to send mad props out to Blaine for expressing such a well thought out response on eurogamer.net. I posted the following shortly after reading his thoughts on this whole matter:

[BEGIN]
What I find so appalling about this article is that dear Mr. Bramwell did not form his opinions on retrogaming after playing Strider for the Genesis, or Street Fighter II' Turbo for the SNES, or even Dracula X for the PC Engine Super CD-ROM...he formed his opinions after playing FUCKING DOOM FOR THE FUCKING ATARI JAGUAR! How you can make a blanket statement such as "Retrogaming Sucks" after playing a PC port on a rather poorly received console like the Jaguar is beyond me. I'm going to go ahead and get it out in the open that I have never observed much merit in any of the British gaming journalism that I have read and I congratulate Mr. Bramwell for furthering my dislike for the field even more. I can be thankful for the fact that I did not read this article on any of the American or Japanese gaming sites that I frequent (and for that matter, may I never read anything approximating it on such sites). Whether Mr. Bramwell likes it or not, retrogaming is more a part of the entire video game subculture now than it has ever been in the past. If you disagree, than how do you explain the countless number of 16-bit game cartridges and cds purchased on forums like eBay every day? Or the recent release of a game like Castlevania Chronicles for the “too cool to be retro” PlayStation? It's clear that retrogaming remains a strong part of this hobby no matter how many blanket statements you try to cover it with, Mr. Bramwell. I remain a loyal soldier in the retrogaming army...
[END]

Let's keep morale high...

I can only shake my head and say that its idiots like this Twat, that make sure that the majority of good 2D games dont even get released in Europe!
So saying, this cretin is just a symptom of the trend in the VG press to try and out-do the last moron for pointlessly attacking anything that isn't a Lara Croft Tomb Raider clone!

If I could say one thing to this pathetic wannabee, I'd not bother with trying to educate him to the reality of the glorious history of Video games, and the roots of all the games that he does actually like. I'd simply say,
"if you dont fucking like it, take it back! You've got ten days to do so, and perhaps then someone who will apreciate it can buy it!"
He's the kind of "Isn't it cool to be controversial, without any grasp of the facts" puddle-shallow, pre-teen tosser, that when told about SNKs demise would reply "So what?"

How these clueless idiots manage to find employment, pushing their ill-informed, factually-impaired, opinions, on people who know better, is a complete mystery to me, and I'm sure the rest of these boards!

The Jaguar may have been no "better" than a SNES. But it does hold a place it the history and evolution of the VG console, and furthermore, it also has, good versions of Atari exclusive games, that no SERIOUS Video games enthusiast/player, or collector would dismiss so easily!

My partner and I collect 70s and 80s LED tabletop games, and LCD handhelds (Like Nintendo Game and Watches) I suppose I should now "bin" those, as they have been superseeded by the GBA?

Right! What about a multi-colored-extra-sound-hyper-control-without-fun-or-even-appeal game kids (like him) buy nowadays?! Give anonymous softwarehouses your money I'll give mine to... uh... Brezzasoft?

After reading that "article", the only thing that came to mind was: "Warn the guys at the forums! They plan to send hate mail!"

Folks, please don't give in to the temptation of cussing this asshole out for being the jerk that he is. This guy's obviously another lemming with a band-wagon mentality that just can't understand why certain people like to think for themselves. You could talk logic, sense, and reason from sun-up 'til sun-down to somebody like that, and it wouldn't do any good.

Why? Because they (lemmings like this basturd)base their ideas, or rather their belief system on faith, and faith alone. Faith along the lines of: "OOOOOoooh boy! What do those geniuses at Sony have cooking for us? They always know what's right, because they're number one! Why bother with anything else?! They MUST be number one for a reason..." Logic and common sense get thrown out the window, that is if they were even present to begin with.

It would fuel this cock-knocker's fire to receive a string of hate mail from us "poor, desperate to relive the past, uninformed and out of the loop retro-gamers". So folks, please don't do it. Ignore him, and kill the basturd with kindness.

Well, kindness meaning NOT dragging his stupid ass out in the street and having a boot party with all your friends on his thick skull like he deserves!

I have been an IGDA member for 4 years and it has done nothing for me but make all my other industry buddies laugh when I tell them I am a member (hey it lets me get into the GDC cheaper atleast)... hehe, just glad to see I am not the only person that is wasting money to the IGDA
