I've read on an old thread that there are some independent companies still making games for the Atari Jaguar. If you have any info on this, could you post links?
Also, I've been thinking about getting a Jaguar, but I don't think that'll happen in the near future until I get some expenses taken care of. Is it worth getting? Also what are the best games made for that system?

I recently bought another Jaguar, with a shit-load of games!
I gotta say, I like them <IMG SRC="smilies/spock.gif" border="0">
If you like SNES and Genesis, then you'll probobly like Jaguar!
Dont think of it as a 64 bit system, cos its really not. Think of it as a clocked 16 bit system, and you wont be dissapointed.

Without just listing the rare or expensive games, because the system becomes a lot less desirable when you think of the games being £50+ So I'll list a few of the cheaper ones that I really like!
All these are "cheap as chips!"
Raiden. (9/10 Sweet!)
Ruiner Pinball. (9/10 Super Sweet)
Power Drive Rally. (9/10 Excellent)
Missile Command 3D (8/10 V.Good)
Pinball Fantasies. (8/10 V.Good)
Defender 2000. 8/10
Wolfenstein. (7/10 Very Original)
Zool 2. 7/10
Bubsy. 7/10
Pitfall. 7/10
Theme Park. (7/10 If thats your bag?)
Syndicate. (7/10 Good version)
Cannon Fodder. (7/10 Again Good version)
Mc Fur/ Cresent Galaxy. 7/10
Zoop. 6/10

Obviously the more expensive games tend to be good! With the exception of Hover Strike. Which although expensive is a bit pants for a 3D Battlezone clone.

Ahh, Golden rule!
Beat em ups on the Jaguar are CRAPOLLA!
I include Kasumi Ninja and Double Dragon in that!
Also, the system cant rally do the fancy 3D graphics Atari wanted it to! But it does do 16 bit type 2D graphics really well!
I'd love to get some of the new games for it!

I bought a Jaguar about a month ago, and only picked up Tempest 2000 with it. For the $45.00 total that I payed it was well worth it.

If you pick up a couple of other clasics like Doom, Wolfenstein, Raiden, and Alien V.S. Predator (carfull don't pay to much) you should be able to have a nice set up for under $100.00

Good Luck hope this helps in your descion to pick one up.

There was a next generation issue a few months back that had a article on dead console development.

The jaguar, like almost any system, has a few gems here and there. The ones mentioned by other here are worth hunting down.

A friend of mine recorded the start up sound. funny tale, its a lion not a jaguar, jaguars are apparently fairly quiet.

The jaguar has, I believe, one of the worst controllers ever made. X-box has got nothing on this that thing. wow.

I remember a very silly, yet heated, rivalery between the 3do stuff and the jag. When the fight game primal rage came out everyone thought it would be a jaguar exclusive. It was developed by atari after all.....whoops. Atari console and Atari arcade were in fact to different animals and primal rage shipped on the snes, genesis, and the final blow, 3do before the jaguar. ouch.

I'm not a big fan of the Jag. Its got a few good games, but nothing that really sells the whole system.

The Jag Carts I like are:

Worms
Rayman
Pinbal Fantasies
Cannon Fodder
Alien vs. Predator
Tempest 2k
Iron Soldier
Val d'essiere Skiing and Snowboarding

The Jag CD is great to have just for the Virtual Light Machine, but it does have a couple good games too:

Battlemorph
Baldies
Primal Rage

Thanks for the help guys. Like I said, nothing's definite, and I'm gonna think about it long and hard before I purchase it.
