This isn't directed at anyone in particular but the mindset in general. This is not my 'farewell address' or a pathetic call for attention. I am and always will be apart of this scene. As long as there is a place to belong, I'll be there.

"Oh! The Neo Geo is DEAD! I don't want anyone else making games for it! The Games will be crap. Just let it die".

A brand new crap game won't tarnish the legacy of the Neo any more than this bullshit-defeatist attitude will.

NeoGeo has ALWAYS been about the fans.

Jesus Christ, people. So what...you only support a console if there are BRAND NEW SNK games?

How many people here own EVERY SINGLE NeoGeo game ever created?

How many have beaten them all?

Not seeing any hands. Do you know why? Because only a FRACTION of this community can claim that.

God Damn. I used to feel kinda cool for being apart of this whole scene. I used to tell people I'd meet in the TG16 and PC-FX scenes, which I dabble in, what a great place this is. At what a great tightly knit community this is.

I'm fucking ashamed of saying that before with this defeatist attitude that's running around.

So what if I haven't been around since DolphinLord's or the DHP. What does that matter? People who HAVE been there are just GIVING UP on the whole shebang.

What does that say about us?

The Neo Geo would have died DEAD it's first year if it wasn't supported by the most rabbid and fantatical of game players.

I could have died at any point in time in it's history. So the company that created it dies after 23 years.

Do you think SNK wants the Neo Geo to die? Do you? Don't you think they could have made plenty of money developing for other systems instead of being a hardware/software developer that even the mighty SEGA couldn't pull off?

I guarentee they would...do you know why? Because WE would have been there to support them.

Now that SNK is dead we should support the NeoGeo STILL. Because it STILL is alive. It will always be alive as long as there is one player still alive. One person who believes it and loves it.

If I'm the only person than so be it.

I'm sure I'm gonna draw some flack for this and maybe even make a few enemies by some who take exception to my comments... then that's fine.

Not a week goes by where I don't see a new guy go "Hey, I'm new here, I'm glad to see there's a lot of Neo Players out there." and I'll be DAMNED if I'm going to let them think they're joining a dying breed!

That's just my take on it. I'm going to stop thinking about this now because I really wanna break some shit the way I feel right now.

Here's a question.

What kind of game would a developer make for a 10 year old piece of hardware that is supported only EXCLUSIVELY by fans?

Madden and Pacman, huh?

Why? Why would they put commerical properties on a non-commercial system?

I think if anything they'll of course release a new game designed for the hardware, to take advantage of the hardware, aimed at the current market which is us.

If it seems like I'm irratible it's because I have a lot to be irratible about.

Are you in such a hurry to see the system die that you won't even try the game before condemning it?

To be honest, I don't care if any more games are made on the Neo if by outside sources. If some are, then great, awesome. But I do care if Samurai Shodown is dead and buried, or King of fighters. These could be made for mainstream systems and that would be cool with me. As long as it's made by the same driving forces. I mean, even though the company is disbanding, the programmerrs and artists are still around, and if one of the new companies like Eolith picks up enough, we could see some cool stuff emerge.

Is that so wrong to dream of a new Samurai Shodown...

I'm not deluding myself by saying I know what is 'the truth'.

I can't make you go back and read when I said that I'm not talking about the games alone. That's part of it.

And if you think the community is not part of this you're sadly mistaken because it EXACTLY this sort of attitude that would kill the community.

The new games are not a threat.

It's this attitude that the new games ARE a threat that damages the community.

It discourages new memebers from joining.

It disheartens fans like me who want to see something new.

My whole point is this....

If anything will kill the Neo Geo, it's that attitude. That Naysayer mentality that will destroy the only place that the Neo Geo is still TRUELY ALIVE....the community...the fans.

If you don't think this has nothing to do with that...then you're missing my entire point.
