Neo-Geo.Com Improvements?

Hey everyone,

I didn't know whether or not to put this in SUGGESTIONS...its more of a thread I wanted to dedicate to the improvement of the site altogether (as opposed to the forums).

If anyone has any legitimate suggestions for improvements to this site [other than layout, design] post here.

Don't take this as criticism, Shawn. This thread is really only in the best interest of NG.com :)

FAQ's?

I think there are a lot of great players on these forums, and I'm sure SOME of them are into writing FAQs. At the very least, you could make a separate collection of FAQs on this site. There are plenty of FAQ's on gamefaqs, wherein all you'd need to do is ask the writer of said FAQ for permission---which I'm sure they'd grant.

I think overall it would add to the site quite a bit

(more) Screenshots

The screen shots offered are great, I just think it would be great if we could offer a few more per game. For new players, its sometimes hard to grasp what kind of game it is---let alone the quality of the game, via one screenshot.

Those're really all the suggestions I have...try to keep the thread flame free :p

Great topic Kid Aphex! With so many great new titles in the pipeline, my motivation is at a peak to improve Neo-Geo.com and NeoStore.com.

Actually, a site redesign is under serious consideration and constructive criticism is welcome. Vinh of S-C.com suggested that 2advanced.com could do a great job redesigning the layout, but that all depends on the budget. I haven’t decided which direction to take it yet, so if anyone knows of a site layout they really like, please share. This project will be scheduled sometime in the summer.

A FAQs section for Neo-Geo.com is already under development and is currently being organized by Mouse_Master. If you have a FAQ you would like to contribute please contact keith@neo-geo.com. The FAQs section will host (w/ authors approval) a vast database of Neo related FAQs. I believe Mouse_Master said he’s already accumulated 40 MB of text files!

More screenshots is another good suggestion. Will probably expand this section after the site redesign, perhaps some form of dynamic database can be implemented instead of the current static html web pages.

Would also like to open another contest, something along the lines of the t-shirt design contest. Maybe an insert design contest with specific guidelines.

And of course the forums are destined to be converted over to vBulletin once the proper tools are developed (according to our recent poll). This project is expected in the coming weeks, anywhere from 3 weeks to 2 months from now.

On the NeoStore.com front I have many ideas, just not enough time. The store will eventually offer phone communication to customers. By adding a phone line to a business for questions and sales calls you can easily increase business by 20% or more I’m told. I have intentionally limited the business to internet communication to keep the situation more manageable. Just need a knowledge staff before I take it to the next level.

I hope to hear some good suggestions and constructive criticism from the members.

Shawn, I think a section of this site should be dedicated to collectors. There are too many things about this part of the Neo universe that need to be developed! I mean: survey cards, epilepsy warnings, second manual in US releases, etc! Too many informations about Neo Geo home carts are lacking and the more we move far for their release date the harder is to gather informations about them!!!

If you'll ever consider about adding such a section to NG.com please do consider me and Shito (I'm sure he'll be glad to help!) as editors!

I think this is a great idea. Sort of like an expanded glossary for collectors. I am not one...but I browse through the discussions every once in a while, and it seems we find out more and more about these games every week...

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it ^^

You're damn right: every single day we discover something new about the SNK universe! This is plain awesome! But we also need to track everything down someway! :)

I could see this being done only on a Cart-To-Cart basis, with legit information being added to the Cart's Information page by moderators after confirmation...just a thought.

Mine is a more simple idea. I think a collector is only interested in knowing what a cart should contain to be considered as mint.

For a long time me, Shito, NBM and many others thought KoF '96 did come without the survey card, but Shito found an auction on Yahoo Japan displaying a KoF '96 WITH it!

I mean, my idea is: a pic of the game COMPLETE and every collector info about it. Simple.

Many people just think this whole thing is bullshit (lie? wink ) but I think they should only don't care, without moaning and bitching all the time.

I think the Collector's area idea that's being developed in this thread is a great idea.

Okay, whatever you do, don't use those 2advanced guys. Their website is the website of the standard wanna be cool webdesigner: Lots of flash, and extremely small text. For the kind of site you will be running, I don't understand why hiring a webdesigner would be necessary.

There are lots of people with talent here, and neo-geo.com would NOT be that hard to redesign.

But that's just my .02 cents.

Are the FAQs going to be just plain text, ala GameFAQs? Or would you be able to beef them up? I think it would be awesome to have nice looking FAQs, with screenshots, going over every move in a combo or whatnot, much like you would find in a strategy guide you would buy at a store. You could break the guide up into sections (like page 1: move lists, 2: combos, 3: profiles, etc..) You could use small screenshots so that it doesn't appear to have many large ones (like the ones found in reviews), so you could be able to work with everything.

I mean, I think Neo games deserve that much, especially for the #1 Neo site out there. It would definitely set a high standard and set the guides apart from the rest.

I think that a NG.com FAQ section is a great idea. As its been mention before, there are a lot of great players that frequent the forum and I'm sure some of them would be more than happy to contribute to the site.

I also agree that the collectors section is a good idea. While I may not share the same views on gaming vs. collection with most collectors I think that a collectors section would be an invaluable resource. After all, if you are going to shell out mad cash for a cart you should have some sort of reference as to what it should come with.

I second SonGohan. I think that would be a great idea especially for the people that are interested in MVS and only have the bare carts.

Don't forget phone cards!

I think Shito and myself and NBM can easily put together a comprehensive list of Japanese AEs releases that came with 'bonus' items such as the warranty cards, rose epilepsy warnings, bonus booklets like 2020 and KoF '98 etc etc.

Porn. We definitly need more porn too :)

I think a truly pimp ass blue/yellow color scheme is in order. If done right this can look really cool.

Aside from that if you could somehow convince a Playmore employee to participate in some sort of developement journal exclusive to ng.c that would be awesome. Like every month someone emails you a paragraph on the goings on and shit or basically whatever. The fans would dig that.
