I am thinking about which buttons to get for my MAS super pro stick. this is the thing however:

1. I was considering getting ultimate pushbuttons because I prefer the shape and I prefer how it feels after playing for a few hours. However, the type of concave buttons they supply have vertical mount cherry switches, which I hear wear out after a while, and feel less responsive overall (the ones at my arcade are concave but I dont know if the switch is vertical or horizontal mount)

2. I was thinking of getting convex (japanese style) buttons in place of the former, because the type they supply have horizontal mount cherry switches, which I hear are more responsive and last longer, however I have NEVER used concave buttons, and I dont know how they feel.

keeping in mind I will pretty much be playing this by myself, along with a few friends, what is your (to whom it may concern's) opinion?

I've never heard of the orientation of a cherry switch effecting its durability. I could be wrong on that, but it doesn't make much sense to me.

As for the button shape, I personaly prefer concave buttons. The Agetec sticks on Dreamcast have the convex buttons and while they aren't so bad as to make playing with the stick distracting, it just doesn't feel as right. I guess it's all what you're used to though.

If you're used to concave buttons, just get the ultimate pushbuttons. I really don't think they'll wear out any time soon. :)

on the leaf design of the vertical microswitch the prong on the bottom of the plunger slowly wears away and pushes outward, the button becomes less responsive (you really have to hit it to get a response)

with the horizontal mount, the plunger goes through a barrel and directly onto the microswitch. very solid design, and if they made a concave version id get it in a second.

Ah, okay. Interesting.

Well, either way, I still say get the button that feels most comfortable to you. It's not like arcade quality buttons wear out quickly any ways, and even if they do they're quite easy to replace. I think being comfortable with your controller is more important then a little extra durability.

Your call though.
