Everyone here talks about "the drama" and frowns upon it... And so do I, quite often. But, is it really avoidable? I don't think so. Even some of us who don't like all the stupid arguing and posturing have found ourselves smack in the middle of it. Heck, Gamersabyss said he left and states that he's tired of the drama, but then he came back for some more and he certainly was a source of a lot of drama lately.

How is it that those who say they hate it also create it? It's because it's just human nature. Disagreement is obligatory. Someone will say something another doesn't like. Tempers will rise. Some people are just assholes. Some people are nice but have bad days and say bad things on those days. One little thing can lead to an avalanche of trouble. Scammers steal people's money and cause great rifts. People are unhappy with things and voice their opinions. Heck, even this thread could probably be considered drama.

Is it possible to stay away from the crap? Sure! Feelgood does. Chris1 does. Chainsawyak... People like that come to mind. I can't recall seeing any of those members involved in a flame war or any kind of post that would constitute "drama". I'm sure there are more such members, too, I just can't think of everyone. Those who really hate the drama can do like these people and stay away.

Well, what's the point of this? I'm just thinking how silly it is for people who are signing up at the new SNK-Capcom forum to think that there won't be "drama" there. Either the mods will have to lock down legitimate threads to stop any kind of drama, or it will exist. It's just human nature to argue. Sign up for the new forum because you love Capcom and SNK... Not because you hate these forums.

If you wanted to, you could avoid the drama. If it really bothers you that much, chances are that you're a part of it too.

Man, it might be a surprise, but there's drama outside too. Most people think it comes with having a brain and being able to socialize and communicate with other human beings.

Can't we all get along ? Well, it doesn't seem like it. Is it really that bad ? No, I don't think so.

And your way of speaking, I'd almost think you're the pope or something.

Not trying to start some drama on my own here, but I must say I really think this is a stupid post. So is mine ? yes I know

Well a lot of people I think are kind of leaving these forums for the SNK-Capcom site and the big reason I thought (besides some people not liking Shawn for some reason) was that they don't like "the drama". It's a stupid post unless you take into account that I am fielding a response to people who say that. I kind of like arguing like this where I take a position and try and defend it.

Totally agree.

I'm sure the new site will be fine and dandy and a nice "alternative" to this one, but if you're completely leaving to go over there to avoid "drama" you are out of your mind.

"Drama" comes from the fact that when you get your member count to a certain point (past 1000 by my guestimate), you have hundreds of consistently posting people, each one with a completely unique personality. Each one with "emotional baggage" so to speak, each one with certain things they like and certain things they hate. Scammers will pop up. People asking for ROMS. It'll all happen over there given time.

Even forums like GameFaqs, a site which has some of the most strict moderators and rules of conduct, has drama and people hating certain people. IT JUST HAPPENS!

You can choose to ignore it or pick a side in a debate and become part of it. Just don't make such a big deal about ridiculous internet conflicts.

I came here, initially, to learn more about the Neo (as I was quite new to it at the time), but pretty soon the drama was more interesting than reading combo FAQ's and announcements of new games (I can go to GameFaqs and Insertcredit/the-magicbox for those).

I can't really get involved with the drama (flame wars etc) largely because of the time difference between myself and most of NG.com's members in the USA. Its hard to keep up an attack on someone when each post is 12 hours apart :D
However I do find them really good fun to read, and much more entertaining than a daily soap.

I think you can have a forum without drama - at least without AS MUCH drama as here - but that is usually because there are less members.
Most forums I've seen rarely have as many users online at once as NG.com, also, not all forums have a free-for-all area like the WarRoom and Unrelated.
Get rid of these and you would see a dramatic drop in the 'Drama'

But I think its places like Unrelated and the WarRoom that keep a lot of people like me coming back for more.......

I certainly hope people aren't joining S-C.com just because they're "tired of the drama" and hate this place. People should join because they have a love for both companies. I know that's why I joined. I've already read a good chunk of posts talking about "we can't have drama here! leave it over at ng.com!" or whatnot, but the fact is - when something comes up that's opinionated and disagreable, they will probably be the first ones flaming. Contradictory, no?

I hope the site becomes as good as this one, if not better. Some of the stuff that goes on here really does need to be spread out. People like to use the word "drama" a lot, probably moreso on this board than any other out there. It's been played out so much that it's almost lost it's meeting.

When i started to read this thread,i thought this would be about the (upcoming)Irak-war... :D

I don't know about this 'drama'(and frankly,i don't bother),but neo-geo.com has still enough threads about games for me. wink

But it's sad that the link was removed-i thought our common interest for an uncommon system should be enough to keep that scene together. :(
There are not THAT MANY guys who care for the NEO to split them up,methinks? spock

I agree partially with you, DMHawkmoon, but you are misled in one respect: the mere fact that in there is a War Room here does only serve one purpose: to create more flame-wars which eventually spread the 'drama' to the rest of the forums, and to give the dozens of trolls which infest these boards a place to live in.

On the other hand, if flame-mongers and trolls are to be kept from having their way here, there should be a *much* tougher policy on that kind of behaviour ENFORCED in actuality, one way or another. Instead of a myriad rules about selling posts, there should be more practical-minded rules designed to make flame-wars and troll-like behaviour impossible.

S-C-com does not a have a war room. It does have a 'user agreement' which very explicitly states that insults and other abusive behaviours will not be tolerated. Both things will surely affect the destiny of those forums, and will help avoid the unavoidable 'human' element of conflict which, I agree, will appear sometime in the near future.

As long as this kind of policy is not implemented here, the value of neo-geo.com for the *real* fans of the neo will depreciate each day, as it is indeed happening now. I am a member of this forums because I am a fan of retro-games in general and of the Neo Geo in particular. I am sick of the incessant flame-wars here and of the dozens of trolls without any interest in any other thing than posting bullshit and bashing other people. If the people who have the power to change this situation do not do anything about it, I for one will leave this site for good. So will do many others.

The drama is fueled by IRC,

half these kids dont even play neo.

now #neo-geo is moderated so no-one can speak, and people are FORCED to go into #snk-capcom or go nowhere.

And as for jigen, what exactly is your fucking admin status in OUR channel #trout for? shame

The "Drama" is unavoidable, for sure.

There are thousand of places where you can talk about mainstream consoles, but there are a few places where you can discuss about the Neo. neo-geo.com is the best among those.

If I don't like, what can I say, www.gamecube.com I can join www.cube.net or www.ps2.it if I get tired of the Nintendo console. There's no way you can do it if you are a Neo fan (well, maybe you wanna join NGF forum, lol! :D ).

So, you "must" have to stay here to "live" the Neo and you can't just run away if something bothers you. You have either to accept some compromises (like just a few of us do) or get deep into the "Drama" and fight for your right to "live in a more comfortable place".

This way people from all around the world gather here just to "live" the Neo everyday.

This causes the "Drama", IMHO.

I find that avoiding it becomes very easy for me. Over time at least.
I also think people have a attraction to anything controvercial.
And truth be told, and I bet nick and tons of others might have said it before, without the drama that keeps you coming back, there isnt much more to be interested in.

This site I see as a place where people spend extreme amounts of time, to much time for a healthy life style.
I joined here a bit of time ago, and I amassed tons of posts.
I still remember when Shawn congratulated Silent Scope on being the most active member here.

I have fallen confortable in nostalgia. I mean thats just how it goes.
And if you spend a good amount of your day here its easy to succumb to negativity. That for one is unavoidable, but soon enough you will find yourself being the person who causes this to others.
I've wore those shoes to many times, and they have never fully fit. You see and issue, you bite into it, and soon enough you are serving dinner for all..

I think because neo geo has a affinity to value, you have a double chance of attracting heartless people.. I mean just settle down to a Ottmar Liebert album or whatnot, & don't get caught up in trying to voice your opinion all the time.

I find that as long as I am confortable with my own opinion, it really doesnt matter how anyone sees my views, and as long as I decree and try to justify it, even for countless reasons I will live insecure with myself.

A line from American History X: 'Has anything you've ever done made your life any better?'

Agreed, It also is not fair to Vinh who is most likely paying with Dilligaf to keep it up.

These sites dont serve the purpose they were born for, or at least serve it partially.
We are here cause we like the neo, old games, new games, etc.
We all got that one thing in common.
SNK-Capcom I hope becomes a site that is filled with stuff to aid fans of both genre based companies.

I think one thing these sites need is a good list of FAQ'S.
I cannot stress how many times I have went to Gamefaqs, and I don't care what anyone says, that site is loaded with useful info and I put it high on my list of things that have helped me in the past.

Me and my cousin Fran talk neo, and I can say besides him, I dont talk much to many people regarding stuff, even if its to complain on things I do not like.
We also need some new sequals to ff and ss to uncram our assholes.

Part of the problem is that with very few new releases there's not much new to talk about, and with the new search feature working I can find out whatever information I'm looking for (I searched and found 3 old threads on how to beat Rugal '94, so I didn't need to start a new thread).

Oh, and let's axe the War Room. All it is now is a haven for people to post flames and disturbing pictures, which is then made worse because people (myself included) feel that they have to rebut all the untrue statements that are created.

This is so fucking funny and sad at the same time... SNK-Capcom will be just another neo.com offshoot where 99.9% of its members are from this site, and all of the conversation will be about this site or things that have already been discussed here months ago. They will recycle the same conversation over and over again, thinking "man what a great place this is where we just talk about games and not money" and they will keep thinking that their site has nothing to do with this site, and it will eventually die.

The only possible way for that site to catch on is if it attracts a crowd seperate from the crowd that this site already attracted, which basically means lame Capcom "gamers" that nobody would want to talk to anyway... That will either happen or it won't happen, but either way there would still be no reason to post there.

God GamersAbyss is an idiot. I'm so glad he left.

Uhhh.... not exactly.
Wait until the user base balloons up into the hundreds. When your mods are at their computers all day deleting spam and figuring out what IP address your latest troll is using. This kind of thing is not fun. Then maybe you'll realize why the war room is there, you'll be longing for a similar toilet yourself.
Controlling behavior on a site with literally, thousands of active members, is a balancing act. There are bound to be a few people who think it sucks. But so far, the administration of this site has done one hell of a job.

As for your "true fans" argument, truth be told, there are tons of long-term, ultra hardcore Neo fans on this site, and it will never be surpassed as an international knowledge base for the system. That alone is enough to keep the real fans here.

Calling it drama is stupid. You make it sound like this is actually some kind of real life environment full of women or something :)

Keep the War Room. If people get stupid because of it, ban them. Instigation is one of my many joys in life, and it's even sweeter when it involves someone basing their pride and self worth on an internet forum :)

DMhawkmmon your quite astute, you were pivotal in most the drama, so your well placed to comment, and this is an interesting thread.

I agree people do get called out for no reason. Lovecraft was challenged for nothing last week, although in jest I think

And GA;s situation reminds me of the scene in "Dumb and Dumber" where the guy dies in the burger joint and Lloyd Christmas says "lifes a fragile thing. One minute your chewing on a burger, the next your dead meat.

It does seem very dramatic when 14 days ago, there was a massive thread asking for GA to be a MOD and now there are massive flames denouncing him and it seems more and more people pitching in.
It seems like GA has become the new Makismo within 2 weeks!!!!!!

Astonishing but it happened
