Ok this is new and has never really happend to me before.

Everyone and there mother around here keeps talking about this game as a great Puzzle title on the Neo and honestly if you look at my "collection" you'd be able to tell that I rarely play anything outside of fighters and the very occasional shooter.

I ended up playing MD3 on MAME for a bit during lunch at work and got intrigued enough to pick up the cart and now that I'm playing it on my Neosticks (I rarely play ROMZ at home anymore) its just incredible. You can do so much better playing on real joysticks, but thats besides the point.

I never imagined a puzzle game could be this intense, or this engrossing. I have never gotten that "rush" you get when you first find an awesome game you've never played before outside of a fighting/RPG game. So you can imagine my surprize after I became addicted to this thing.

Fortunately I'm not alone in my addiction. Most of my gaming friends who were over this weekend are now addicted to it as well, but most importantly so is my better half who can actually beat me sometimes at this little gem.

Anyway I'm starting to learn how to setup simple combos but I have gotten some high chains already. 7 was the largest I got once I think, but I've also been hit by this MASSIVE chain during vs. play that was incredible to see how quickly it killed me.

Funny how scarry that combo sound is when its not coming from your side, as you hear it get higher and higher it just brings more impending doom to your soul as you play and wait to see how badly you're going to get screwed in the next few seconds.

Man I love this game, I may try some other puzzlers (I eventually have to get Twinkle Star Sprites, but that'll have to wait till after I splurge my cash on SvC).

BTW, I actually found this baby for only $45 off MD. Gamesales, which just makes the score even sweeter since everywhere else I looked had it for a lot more. Thanks Mike! :D

Yeah, the game really does live up to it's reputation around here. The great thing is, the addiction doesn't really go away.

You hit the nail on the head. I love that game, it's a permanent fixture in my MVS. Getting to Black Pierrot is one of those moments that makes you all fuzzy inside (so is getting a 80,000+ point bonus in a round because you beat the other guy in less than 5 seconds). It almost makes the other games seem dull :)

Yes, well since I've picked up this game I've given it the treatment I give all my other Neo carts, it got an english styled insert, you can check it out here.

This was a bit of fun to pull off since there was no real english insert to go off of as a base so I just kinda winged it as best I could. Surprizingly there is plenty of good source material for this kind of thing on this game, which is VERY surprizing considering its age and relative obscurity.

BTW, Bobak who is Black Perriot? Is that the final boss? I really only played the single player when I was on lunch at work (on teh ROMZ), also you can beat an opponent in under 5 seconds? You have to be dealt a mighty nice starting set to pull that off with lots of those "easy combos" as I like to call em. Its hard to describe but its the simple combos that are easiest to chain and just murder someone ASAP.

Ahh well, I'm looking forward to getting my ass kicked this weekend at this game, I hear Pro_Gear has mad skillz.

I know what you mean, Hendrix. I was just playing this the other day after hearing so much about it. Now a lot of other people's avatars make sense :D This game is crazy, and I'm definitely gonna snag this one up on MVS without a doubt.

JHendrix:

This is from one of the FAQ's:

There is another, final character, who is not based on a Tarot card. The Black Pierrot is well-nigh impossible to find, and only challenges the best Magical Drop players. There isn't any way to play as Black Pierrot.
Anyways, as I have said many times before, I love MD3 to bits, but there is one thing that ruins it for me... my 17 year old younger sister ownz me at it for free... 90% of the time I can't win a single round against her - sad but true eek!

On a side note, I got this game for $32 (something like that anyway) last year from a member here, it does seem like it has gone up in price a bit since then. I'd NEVER sell my cart though, the game is way too much fun :)

Nice insert btw! :)

LOL get ready for the tournament then JHendrix. However, SamuraiSensei is what you would call "good" at that game LOL

I hear EvilMike can play too.

That's the one game that I'll most likely just give up on. Pat (Samurai) plays so fast I can't even keep up.

It's a funny game altright and it's really fun to play against a friend but the funniest puzzle game on the neo is money idol exchanger, now that game is so much fun. Game engine is abit diffrent from magicl drop though. What you do is that you exchange money, ex. Five one yen coins become a five, two five yes a 10 then through 50, 100 and 500 before two 500yen coins dissaper. Linking is more forgivving than MD and you can link the coins however you want as long as it's not diagonal. As in magical drop you can continue to pick and drop coins to make insane combos. Personaly I think it's the best game on the neogeo but that is perhaps, i hope, just not me ^^;;

JHendrix,

Black Perriot is a secret character you can face in vs. mode against the cpu. You have to have atleast 150,000 points by the 10th round to face him. He's pretty difficult to defeat.

Reaching Black Perriot is simple:

Don't loose any rounds up through the "normal" characters (so before you reach Tower and Fortune). Thus I mean up until either World or Empress. If you haven't lost a round, World/Empress will be unbelievable good. If you can survive their onslaught (not guarenteed, as they will nail a ton of combos off the bat), you will face Black Perroit in all his back-up singer glory. If you loose, you will get to continue against him.

Since I've usually racked up a huge score to get that far on one credit, I'm not sure about the score correspondence. However, in MD2 all you had to do was get to the end without loosing a round.

With my play style, I often face Moon. I've only faced Hanging Man once, as I don't play long, drawn out matches until the game gets tougher. IMO The Lovers are the easiest CPU opponent to get some insane score on. My record was with them.

Oh, and I think some characters are stronger than others:

I use either Tower, Stong Girl (standard charact) or Strong Man.

I've got Black Pierrot saved on my Memory card I think. I'll bring it with me to the get together on Sunday his singers fucking rule. It's been a while since I played a real person I think I might be rusty. We'll have to see.

MD3=best $28 purchase of my entire life.

MD3 rules! Unfortunately I don't have the kind of competition that a lot of you probably do (most of my friends are no where NEAR my level). The only thing I don't like is the BUTCHERED english version. I guess Taito didn't imagine this game going anywhere outside Japan because the English version just screams laziness. Every character has one of only two types of voices, male or female. All the text is bland and IS NOT directly translated. Anyone that has this game and has the ability to boot it up in Japanese I strongly suggest you do so. it gives the characters a lot more personality when they have their own voices. Oh yeah, and I think Moon is sexy...

Well, last year in Rev's house after you left Pro_Gear, Rev and Talen played some of it, and yes, Pro_Gear kicked their asses. I didn't play it against them because, believe it or not... I've never played it  . So I just watched.

Now that you mention it, I have no puzzle for my MVS yet... Turf Masters is the most similar thing. I was offered a Puzzle Bobble and Puzzle de Pon in exchange of a favour some time ago but I chose Windjammers instead.

I guess I'll give a try to this cart if I see it for a good price mr_t

I had never gotten to him or knew how till a few days ago. I made a post about it in Gameplay. I rarely play single player.

Alright I got a question for you guys: why is it in VS. play if the second player wins by Quota both players get the "Loose" as their message, but the second player gets counted as a Win in the vs. match and has their character turn into their win pose.

Is it a glitch or something in the gameplay I'm missing? I figured it's a glitch cause it only seemed to happen when the 2P wins by Quota. Very strange. spock

hey J, this was meant to be a joke. wink
i never had a problem with you. the only thing, i don't like are those pointless high res vs low res threads. there really is no need to argue about such stuff as long as playing our games is fun. and md3 IS fun. :)

Uhh yeah I know, kinda why I joked about crying. :p wink

But seriously, wouldn't MD3 be so much better if it was in High Rez w/ GGX2 effects? loco

PS. I'm joking. :D
