I'm sure this must have already been discussed, but what is the reason to be selling a newer kit so cheap? Is this to compete with all the bootlegs in the market?

It's been out for over a year. I'm guessing that the game hasn't been selling well lately, so they drop the price. The price dropped like a damn rock!

I think it's probably the same thing with Matrimelee. It's not an established franchise (well, it is, but not REALLY in the US) and they aren't sure how it will sell. That's why, I'm guessing, they didn't start the game at $1500 like every other new MVS release but brought it out at $400 instead.

That's the figure I had in my head.

And I doubt this one will drop in price as quickly as the other recent releases, so it looks like I may have to go the home cart route for this release to save my bank account from certain doom.

I'm going to assume you haven't been into the MVS thing for very long? MVS carts generally fetch $1500 (or more) when they are FIRST released. Generally, within a month they are down around $700-$900. Then a month or 2 later, it's $300-$500. After about a year it sticks in the $200-$300 range, until 1.5+ years later it starts to fall into the sub $200 range. ROTD is sorta a freak accident type deal when it comes to the price drops, since it can be had for $70 new barely a year after release. Matrimelee MVS will probably be around $200 in 2 or 3 months and stay there for a while. When Matrimelee hits $100 I'll pick it up.

The last time a cart debuted at $1500 was KoF 2K2. The price on that dropped to ~$350 from $1500 in what, 3 maybe 4 months?

If they released SvC:Chaos at the same price as Matrimelee MVS debuted, they'd likely sell a shitload of carts. Since it's a higher profile game, I am guessing it'll start, like everyone else here, in the $1500-$2000 range.

Well honestly, the reason ROTD is so cheap... is because they made so many of them. Evoga/Noise Factory/Playmore jumped the gun on how successful this title would be. There was a lot of pre-release hype... then very very poor sales. This is the only game (sans Zupapa and Sengoku 3) that this has really happened to. I mean, Do you see an abundance of KOF01 and KOF02 MVS kits? No... The production run met the demand... on ROTD it was way over... hence why the Neo Store alone has had over 600 new MVS kits.

From what we were told at SNK at E3, the same will not be happening with Matrimelee. Sure, it will go down in price, but it was a very limited MVS release. Much fewer carts were manufactured so as not to have another ROTD fiasco again (where they are practically giving the carts away to Shawn for free.. cause no one wants them). Don't expect to see tons of Matrimelee carts for $60 ever. It may hit that price eventually, but you will only see a few here and there... like most older MVS releases...

And if this game is good, and the release was as limited as we were hinted at during E3... we may have another Strikers or PI2 on our hands... one where it drops to a certain price then gets all snatched up... then shoots back up to $200+ range to sit.

Ah well,

-Nick

Its over stocked, way to many were produced. I think alot of money was lost for them on this release.

With so much hype that SVC is getting, isn't it likely for it to be produced in large number and drop a little quicker than most releases? This is probably the first title to put the Neo Geo into mainstream gaming in awhile, so you'd think they'd produce them in huge numbers. On the other hand though, I feel like only large arcades (and ones mainly in Japan) will take the time to order this. I really don't think malls or amusement parks will bother to carry the title just because the state of arcades these days is so stagnant. Which would lead to overstock (not nearly in RoTD numbers). Anyway, I hope it's a success but I also hope they make a few more than needed and it's easier on the wallet. Sorry to go O/T...
