Wow guys. I have played Metal slug on my supergun, arcade cabinet, PC and PSX. However none have compaired to playing it on MAMEx for xbox. Sprites are perfect (a littled smoothed, so nice!) Colors are brilliant! and controllers are the best! I must say, I'm fully impressed! To bad only smaller roms work with it. Finally the way to play this game (and others) is here! Anyone else think that the neo-hardware is holding the games back? I have not thought so untill now...

I do agree, arcade games via emulator look perfect in the xbox, specially the Capcom ones with FBalpha.
However I do have Metal Slug in MVS format, and I still prefer playing it in my supergun than in the xbox with mameX. And what controllrs do you use? I hope you are not talking about the Xbox big pad, the digital control panel is a piece of shit.

One by one people are realizing what I've been saying is true... :D

BTW, the best way to play "teh ROMZ" is on a TV PC setup thats always hooked to your big screen and reciever. Use gamepads or joysticks you can go either way, but it really is awesome when you hook it up right. Still I use my Supergun more than I use my EMU stuff except when I get to play online... :D

Sounds nice - where can you download mame for Xbox?

Is there a place that has a tutorial on how to burn the romz?

Am I going to be excommunicated/executed for asking these types of questions in this forum?

What part of this do you not understand Hendrix?
I didn't start the topic you know. :p

(Sorry Pyro, but I've been taking far too much slack on this lately).

meh, the games make the system. And the games rock via emulation. Why do you think so many mods must be done to a home system just to bring it up to 16 bit standards? Wavy lines, mesh turns into a rainbow, no stereo, av is shit. Either go supergun, cab, or play teh roms. I've owned all the neo hardware, it blows (except the mvs)

Yeah the hardware may be holding the games back but as a beginner collector I think that there is something special about owning the NEO GEO aes carts. Quite smug looking at the games I've collected in mint condition that I used to gaze at in the arcades when I was a lad!

I think a balance of both as always is best! I don't think I would shell out for the new games if I could get them on the cheap for Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox.

wink

Why the hell are people talking about emulation on a board that is SUPPOSED to be dedicated to keeping the Neo alive?

What a fake way to say you support it...

Emulation can be as perfect as you want, it is NOT the real thing! Games are always a bit different, take the example of Bubble Bobble in MAME which looks like the original BUT for a strange reason, baddies movements are not the same! They don't act as on the original machine! So your Metal Slug on X-box might looks better but it's not the same thing! (and X-box sux anyway!) And you know it while playing, and you won't make me believe that the X pad is better than a real arcade joystick! blow_top
Emulators are great to test a game prior buying it but that's all!
Play on the real thing is a totally different feeling! :)

MVS rulezzzzzzzzz! buttrock

I say emulation users need not apply here...

I fail to see how using dumped, usually pirated ROMs can be called supporting the Neo.

I never modded my home system and I am perfectly content with it. And yes, I have indeed play MVS machines.

All Neo hardware blows except MVS?

Shut the fuck up.

This thread is stupid as shit.

The hardware is holding back the games? How much better do you really think new hardware is going to make the games? Gee, perhaps high res and that's about it. You and Hendrix and a few other idiots yak away about this shit as if new hardware will suddenly enable games to go beyond anything possible. Why don't you read that thread that idiot Nick started and see how a good number of people feel.

If you dislike the system enough to bitch about how it needs new hardware, then stick with your roms ok?

I find that the original composite connection works well enough with the sound fed from the headphone jack. S-Video is overrated. The only good mod I need is the debug mod, but that has been less the case lately as the debug is only really good for games like Metal Slugs and KoFs, which I never play anymore.

Considering the topic is about the Neo emulator on XBOX rather than the Neo itself, shouldn't this be moved to Unrelated?

I can't stand 2d games on next gen systems (like MOTW for DC) the sprites look blurry. I have seen Neo games running on XBOX, I'm not impressed. Give me the pixelated Neo output any day.

Just depends entirely on your tastes.

I have both a MegaDrive and a Neo homecart system that were modded my JM Kurtz for S-Video, and the difference is enormous. Both these systems share the same really piss-poor composite AV output. The modded systems look really nice on my 36" telly.

I think having a fondness for the Neo system is really determined by whether or not you had one way back when. I got my first one back in 1992 in lieu of a repaid loan from a friend. I had nothing but Sengoku for 4 months but I was nevertheless in love with the big powerful beast.
It blew the fuck out of everything else available at the time, and the games were exactly like the arcade, so it was just about the coolest thing ever to me.

I went on a pro-MVS rant last year, but sure enough I ended up owning another modded homecart system. Nostalgia just exacts too high a price.

MVS or homecart, its all the same. Just enjoy your games, get better, have fun.
