Aight, this is kinda my take oh the whole state of 2D fighters as we have it today, cause I believe it is worth talking about. What I mean is I want to hear what you all think about where fighters are going right now, and what is right/wrong about it.

As of right now I'm convinced one of the best 2D fighters out there right now is Capcom vs. SNK 2. Although it's not a pure SNK game it's still SHITLOADS of fun, especially w/ SNK characters in there tearing up the Shotos...

Anyway as far as the Neo goes, I've been giving KOF2k1 a good once over and it's an alright game. I hate how Kyo has been castrated (I much prefer the KOF98/CvS2 Kyo). Plus after about 4 hours of serious CvS2 competition, when we loaded up KOF2k1 even I was like "Man this looks like crap." It still plays great but I think KOF is getting a little stale.

I don't have a problem when I just sit down to play some KOF, but going from one game to the other it is kinda painful.
Now honestly GFX don't matter much, but I hate that SNK/Playmore is getting lazy in that the sprites just don't change. I'd like to see a new KOF w/ less chars and better sprites, because it would be a nice shot in the arm to the series.

Now Rage of the Dragons looks mighty damn sweet. And I pray that SNK vs. Capcom actually materializes. But it's all we have to look foward to at the moment because Capcom is on a 2 year break from 2D fighters. I mean there is Guilty Gear XX that looks pretty good, but it's not the "serious" 2D fighter that I think most of us are looking for.

I guess we can hope for some other games, but right now I only see 3 or so good 2D fighters coming out for us ATM and it's kinda sad..

Anyway, are there any other good games that you guys see on the horizon that are on the way out?

Peace

CVS2 huh? I like the game, but I cant really get into it. Everytime I sit down with some friends to play some fighters, we always end up going back to...well just about any neo geo game. Sure CVS2 is a very very good game, but we always make our way back to KOF 98 or 2000 (We dont have 2001 yet). Even Samurai Shodown 4 gets a lot of use, and lets not forget the beauty of MOTW. Rage of the Dragon looks good and may be what we all are waiting for, a fresh serious fighter. Who is to say though, I havent heard much about it. Has anybody else? 2D games are getting more and more scarce and the 2D fighting relm has become rather stale when it comes to originality, but it all boils down to the fun factor and what I find is that new or old, some good 2D Neo fighting is the best around...for me anyway. Even if nothing new came out for the neo (long live!), I'd be plenty happy for the next few years with what is already available. Capcom is cool and all, and I love their games (Vampire anyone?) but for me, they get boring after about 1/2 and hour, cant really figure out why either. Anyone else?
