i've been reading in the 16-bit forum about a guy in st. louis selling candy cabs for around $300-600 (rough number). question is would a drive up from florida be worth it? it'll be 2400 miles round trip and my girlfriend is willing to buy one for my birthday (isn't she great?), and she's willing to drive it with me (as a quick mini vacation). so i've been looking, but i have yet to find anything in florida... she also enjoys the look of the candy, so she would rather put her $$$ on that.... PLEASE help, i have no idea what to do....

Tonk has a point man. It's a vacation and a free cab. Your next post should be, "Here are pics of my new cab." Congratulations.

How much would the trip cost? Arcade-Infinity could probably ship you one for that. I know they have some instock for $355.

I live less than 20 minutes away from the guy, and I have been there a handful of times and occasionally the stock there can dramatically change within days, I don't know if he'd hold something for you (he is a nice guy, maybe). Weigh your options first, if you do end up going make sure there's a cab waiting for you otherwise maybe you shouldn't waste the gas.

I'm not trying to sound pessimistic :)

That drive is much too long. You'd be better off going to an auction that is closer to your house. There are several major auction companies, here are two:

<a href="http://www.usamusement.com/" target="_blank">http://www.usamusement.com/</a>

<a href="http://www.superauctions.com/" target="_blank">http://www.superauctions.com/</a>

Check out their calendar of auctions to see if any are closer than where you're looking now.

If you do buy from him, ask for detailed pics (before you drive 600 miles and find a crapbox) and get a full description of the condition; don't ASSUME anything.

Personally if I were you, I'd just spring for the cab and pay shipping to get it to you . . . its a HELL of a lot easier to have it shipped, and you don't risk problems on the drive (like an accident). Just make sure that if you have one shipped, it gets INSURED . . . or if it comes all smashed up, you'll be disappointed!

June 15 there is one in Orlando FL.

<a href="http://www.superauctions.com/dates.html" target="_blank">http://www.superauctions.com/dates.html</a>

Keep in mind that it may not have any candy style cabs, but its always better to see a cab IN PERSON before committing to buy . . . not always possible (such as when buying from the places in CA that sell candies), but always preferable.

The cab is worth the trip... anyway 2400 miles means a lot of road... I'd look for a near seller instead...

i do consider myself lucky... she really didn't even play games that much until i met her. since then, she has been hunting down old NES games, and will not leave my DC alone when she comes over (she loves mr. driller). She even bought me my gamecube... now i'm trying to find a cab at a reasonable price, since i DON'T want to drive her broke....
