I acknowledge that KoF is the flagship SNK series. It's got the most characters, from only a few of the SNK fighting series - usually they're a blast to play. But I don't see why people want to claim Kof is better than MotW, or RB2 (I don't hear people comparing to LB or SS which is good). Honestly, KoF is a little too sloppy. Sure, fighting's okay, but there is not time consistency, as often noted in reference to AoF and FF time problems, and the cast is all over the place - making too little sense at all. Moreover, too many characters in the game should not be considered in a "king of fighters" - Bao for instance, or Yuri - they suck. Now if this was street brawl, and someone just wanted to kick their ass, I can understand, but not in a tournament. I mean, if they can sign up for the tournament, then why don't we have other crappy looking characters like Cheng? Why Yuri and not Duck King? Why the sucky characters and not the cool?
MotW takes place once, as far as we know right now - the characters are all part of the new South Town - the motives are a lot more clear, and the resolution is also apparent. This is partially due to the smaller cast. But then the smaller cast also allows for a graphically superior product too, maybe. Characters with their own back grounds, BGMs, intros, motives, fleshed out characters - not just sprites on the screen, like Jhun.
In my opinion, KoF has only gotten worse. The best was '94 (although I like 97 so much for the final match between kyo and iori, 94 was still better). 2000 is the worst, or maybe 99... 99 really sucked, but 2000 has that suchi stewardess sumo POS character, Hinako. Yeah, I still like playing 2000, it's a good game, all the kofs are good, but the earlier the kof the better. When the price for 99 and 2000 drops to 110~120 (as all kofs will - the curse of being a KoF), maybe you'll agree.
