This came from another topic (The one about the horrible reviews of Speksnk.com) but I think is a good discussion theme. So I'll repeat what I've said in that thread:

"MS3 is the game with the most incredible graphics on Neo geo... AND THAT'S ALL
MS3 is BORING as hell. An very CHEAP. Maybe graphics are superb but... why I can reach the final mission in MS2/X with one credit (And LOTS of skill, with people cheering around and all) and die in level 2 boss in MS3?
In fact I think it's the WORST metal slug game of them all (Shock Troopers and even ST2 are MILES better in playability terms although I rather prefer MS series than ST). Even Cyber-Lip is funnier. Well... MS3 graphics are outstanding... but the REAL GAME sucks.
If I want action i'll play a video game. For animated movies we have Anime. MS3 is great for watching... otherwise you will get tired, VERY TIRED

Metal Slug 3 boring? cheap?

man, you must have been paid to say this or something

Metal Slug 3 is in no way cheap or boring to play. As a matter of fact, I believe MS3 is the best slug there is. MS4 might change all that, contrary to what people are saying, nobody has the game on the home cart system yet, so they can't talk...

The truth is that Metal Slug 3 is the Greatest of all and it will probably be claimed as better than MS4.

That's the only even SLIGHTLY negative comment made towards the game in my review of it, on this site. Chimpmolester, I don't know what you're smoking, but I didn't stop enjoying Metal Slug 3 for a few weeks, and it says that in the review...

I'll tell you the honest truth, I have MS3 on AES and its the only game I have, and I hate it. It was sweet at first, but grows old VERY fast. The last level is sooooooooo long and boring.

Metal Slug 1 is the greatest, Nazca fucked up the series with 2 and made a HUGE improvement with X.

So the best Slug games are 1 and X, period.

I have them both as ports on the PSX and they are still as fun without spending $2500 for the first one and $500 for X.

Ha! I saved $2900!

I agree with Tonk. The best are 1 and X without any doubt.

Here's a fact: When I play MS3 at home with some friends we need to go out or watch TV 15 minutes after start playing (That's around mission 3 boss/start of mission 4). If the game is MSX or 1 we play until we finish it (Or they die

Last level of Slug 3 is excelent. Good level intro, nice woods combat, pre-final boss is nice to fight him, starwars battle, inside the ship fight, aliens anihilation, last boss.

All makes sense. Even the soundtracks of Slug 3 are better than any other older Slug. And Yes, Slug X is the best... ehrrr.... Yeah, after Metal Slug 3.

The multi-route choice is definitly a plus.

To call MS3 the most boring Neo game is a little bit too much, but, honestly the last level is too long and therefore boring...

I would not call too big. I think that the big issue here is that the last level does not have a "mission 6, START" when we start the spacy war thing. If the level would have been divided from the moment that we enter the spaceship, I guess noone would be complaining. <img src="graemlins/glee.gif" border="0" alt="[Glee]" />

Why must everyone always compare shock troops with metal slug? Thats like saying Blazing Star has better playability than samurai shodown, a ridiculous comparison too!

MS3 for detail and looks its proberbly the best looking Neo game and the amazing game play and multi routes easily make it one of the best games to play......boring?? i think not....might be boring if u played it with your eyes closed...but even with your eyes closed its not as boring as KOF 2K1

Maybe the last level is too long, but the only part of it that I may consider "boring" is vertical shooting part. Once you arrive the starship, it becomes VERY funny with the aliens, robots, zombie clones and all that stuff.
MS3 is the best Neo game I own, that's my final word.

Vertical shooting parts are one of my favorites. Specially the second vertical shooting part, it haves the best Soundtrack of Metal Slug X, and it just fits well the shoting action. <img src="graemlins/glee.gif" border="0" alt="[Glee]" />

I didn't say that it was boring, I said that the vertical part was the only one that MAY be considered "boring", because it is quite long and the background and enemies are always the same.
I would never say that it is a boring game. I have such great games as KOF2001, MOTW or Last Blade 2, but MS3 is my favourite. I love MS3! <img src="graemlins/drool.gif" border="0" alt="[Drool]" />

Well... comparison between MS and ST is not so strange...
both are action/shoot'em up...
one side-scrolling, the other vertical-scrolling...
Imo ST is a little better...

slug 3 isa piece of art. the best graphic what a neo can give you.

last level to long. maybe when you playet for the first time - but man, what a game !!!

I seriously doubt slug 4 will reach 3.

Slug 3 is a work of art. Far harder and longer than all the other Slugs, Slug 3 is the Dirk Diggler of Metal Slug. Great bosses, the amazing blood spew attack when you get turned into a zombie, branching paths that provide immense replay value, and an absolutely masterful soundtrack (Level 4!!!) that ranks among the Neo elite. You guys will understand what a treasure this game was once Slug 4 comes along and underwhelms us with its craptastic recycledness.

MS3 is a GREAT game but its difficulty is soooo fucking insane that in the long run most arcade players prefered to stick to MS2 & X by far. This is the only 1 thing I didn't like about it...

Metal Slug 3 difficulty insane??? Yeah, if you play it in the hardest mode. I'm able to beat it with 5 lives on easy mode, 2 continues on normal mode. Do not ask, I play with the Vulcan fix.

The dificulty is relative. The paths are a big help to finish the levels without losing a life.

The Bosses are quite easy, and the only dificult part of the game is the middle of the last level inside the spaceship. yeah, just before the zombies.

Aside from a few parts, I think Slug 3 is not the best slug.

To say it is the most boring game on the NeoGeo is a disservice to all the other games on the Neo.

I think Slug X is the best Slug yet. I can't vouch for 4, because I have not played it. But for my money, Slug X is what I play.
