Are the batteries hard to change? If they run out before you change them, is the board ruined?

I have considered picking up some of the Capcom games, but don't want to take a chance on something I won't be able to fix if it dies on me... Any help would be much appreciated!

Awesome bro. Just recently I picked up Mars Matrix. That game is incredible and you’ll just love the CPS2, it’s a fantastic system.

yea, I've been reading about the battery of death problem on a sit that I think was called arcadeflyer.com or something they said that if you unsodder the lithium battery from the board before it dies and sodder in a new one within an hour that the board should be good for at least another 6 years.

after I get over the initial binge that I'll prabably go on upon reciving my cps 2 I may try to change the battery in my b-board. I'm still somewhat a novice in the ways of soddering but I've been very sucessfull with the ol' soddering iron while haking Dreamcast controllers to work on my supernova.
