Supposedly on US homecart systems the game does not offer 2P simultaneous play while on Japanese BIOS consoles it certainly does.

Judging by that bargain-basement €150 Eng. version Andro Dunos and such....

Neo Bomber man, this is not true. I had the Euro version of Last Resort and I was playing it on my US system. My dad and I played in fact together so two people can play at once. If you do have a copy that does not allow this then maybe there is something wrong with it because this should not happen. Please fill us in on how you came to this conclusion.

I was chatting with a friend who told me so. I hypothesized he must have had a US system as I saw for myself last night that 2P play on a Jp system is indeed possible.

Or then it could be like Magician Lord or Blue's Journey. I have only known of the checkpoint system in ML carts (where one continues at a certain point after dying, as in Pulstar) however it is possible the "CD" version of continuing right where one dies is also on cart.

Blue's Journey, I was told yesterday, also exists as 2 separate editions: a 4-continues version as well as the infinite continue one (which I own). Whether the former is but the CD version or cart I do not however know.

edit: waking up/clarifying post

I have also heard that there are different versions of some releases. Someone told me that Magician Lord has unlimited continues while other versions do not. The same goes for NAM 1975. I find it very odd that there are different versions of these early games.

As you know, the later Neo Geo games used the exact same chips as their arcade counterparts. Perhaps they found when they released some of these earlier games on AES - they were too hard with limited continues so they added more continues to make the game easier. I know for a fact that Ghost Pilots has unlimited continues. I think that my English Blue's Journey has unlimited continues as well.

It would be interesting to see how many different versions there are of early games. I wonder if that will have to do with the value of them. There really is no way to tell unless you actually have the game. CD versions of games are a bit different from the AES versions because they are usually made easier. A very good example of this would be the Neo Geo CD version of Magician Lord. That is pretty much all I know.

NBM, just checked in to this for ya. I tested out my euro (of course wink ) Last Resort on both my japanese bios modded system and my untouched US system. I can definitely say that 2P simultaneous is present on both systems. For the hell of it all, I even toyed with all the options on the bios modded system (dev modes, normal, regions, etc) quickly and 2P simultaneous is present in every single combination.

So I'd say maybe there are different versions of the cart floating around or your friend is wrong?

Hope this helps brotha

Edit: Where's my 5th course on NGCD BTG :)

Could be. I only just got my own LR yesterday, so I haven't ever tested it on a US system. My LR is also European while the one in question was a US copy insofar as I know.

Oh, and let me get home before anymore of this BTG banter continues. Won't be too much longer now..

I play my US Last Resort on a US system with 2 players all the time. Maybe some of the copies will not allow 2 player simultaneous play, but I can vouch for my copy and its ability to do so :)

I bought the US version when it came out back in '92, and I always could play 2P simultaneous, even when my AES was unmodded.

Are you thinking about Viewpoint? If you are, then you would be correct. Viewpoint is by default 1P alternating only unless you play the MVS or JP versions or use a Debug bios, in that case you can play 2P Simultaneous.

As I said, I was only going on what I was told. I will e-mail this thread to the person and see what they say.

Elektro is right, you are confusing it with VIEWPOINT.
All LAST RESORT versions have a working 2-player mode.

And the only 'Different version' games i know of are BLUES JOURNEY and MAGICIAN LORD.
