In my own opinion, which is worth roughly 12000 posts here at ng.c...

Samurai Shodown
Samurai Shodown 2
Baseball Stars 2
Sengoku 2
Ninja Commando
KoF 96
Fatal Fury Special

I figure that for $500, this is the best way to spend it. Each game a pinnacle of their era. And all of them affordable.

While some of the games you listed are indeed great - they would drive up the price of the collection too far. Which get's in the way of the aesthetic, IMO. :)

I definitely detect an aesthetic imblance in the shooter area. Need at least one of Pulstar/Blazing Star/Last Resort/Viewpoint. I thought at first that you might need a puzzle game also, but the balance feels pretty good even without one.

Edit: That kills the cost balance though, does it not? The premier shoooter is probably Pulstar, which will blast your wallet. Maybe Viewpoint?

spock

Is this the best way to spend $500 on Neo games and have them look nice on the shelf or is this about having the games requird to have a great looking collection.

IMHO, I think its nice to have progressions of a series, like all the KOF's/SS's/AOF's/etc lined up.

That said, I know that JPN carts have nicer inserts, but I honestly hate the fact that I can't look at a games spine and read what the game is, so I prefer the english ones.

Fantastic game Viewpoint is, but the Japanese version will cost the best part of $300 for a mint copy, the US version the best part of $150.

I like Wasabi's choice, although I don't really agree on Ninja Commando... I think Last Resort would be a better bet, imo.

Come to think of it, I would definitely add Last Resort to the collection.

Viewpoint ... if the cost could be lower. But since it often goes for $250 or more, it would be the most expensive game. But both Last resort and viewpoint are incredible. Pulstar at $450+ I can't put on the list. That and the fact that a lot of people complain about how frustratingly difficult it can be (while viewpoint is very hard, but still fun...)

I guess with that, you'd have a very balanced collection. Sans a puzzler.

If money weren't an object, the collection could be a lot larger, but part of why I like the small collection is that it shows more focus.

Yes, Ninja Masters, Kizuna, TSS, BTG, Metal Slug X, Last Blade 2 - all of these could be added and would make the collection more "fun" and diverse, but then it just gets to be a circus, instead of a tight knit team of cool yet affordable games.

I do not believe you are using the word AESTHETIC correctly. The word has to do with visual appeal such as art. It should not matter how much a game is to have aesthetic qualities.
