It's always puzzled me as to why people on this forum are against using the term aes. Does anyone know why the terms home cart and home system are so much better? spock Im really interested.

It wasn't a term used very much until Dion started pushing it back in the day.

Beforehand, the snk-used term was "NGH".

It doesn't mean anything. It is just the japanese adding hype to the power of the machine.

Like "Max 330 Mega" "Pro-Gear SPEC" "Super High Tech Game"

The machine is a Neo Geo. If you want to describe it, just call it a homecart system. Using the terms "AES" or "NGH" will confuse someone who knows nothing about the Neo Geo.

Well if it's correct name is AES, than why is the Neo Geo CD an AES? Look at the top of a toploader.

Again, IT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING. It is a description to make the machine sound powerful. "Neo Geo" is a trademark, "Advanced Entertainment System" is not.

Fair enough, still no reason to call it the poor sounding NGH.

Although i cant deny that it is an "Avanced Entertainment System" and a "Neo Geo Home Console"

I think using any abreviation to describe the home console is stupid. People need to stop being so fucking lazy and just type out "homecart" or "console". It's less confusing and doesn't cause any stupid controversy.

Now I know people will argue "what about MVS, that's an abreviation too?" MVS is different. MVS describes one thing, and one thing only the arcade hardware. SNK has slapped MVS on everything from the cabinets to cart labels.

The term AES is accompanied with anything Neo Geo. You will find "Advanced Entertainment System" on everything from the home console, to the Neo Geo CD, and a Captain Tomaday mini marquee.

Therefore, one cannot logically associate "AES" with the home console alone, since it is used to describe Neo Geo as a whole, be it any of the Neo Geo hardware.

Like Jigen said. People want to distance themselves from Dion, so NGH is more accepted here than AES. That's a recent fad. AES used to be ok around here too. I've been trying to use NGH more than AES too, just cause I'm not a big fan of Dion.

To me personally NGAES would MAKE SENSE (not necessarily sound better) since the NES and SNES include "Entertainment System" as part of their abbreviations. I'm sure it was just SNK's way of poking fun at their competitor at the time.

I'm used to use AES in opposition to MVS. As AES is written on the home system only and MVS on the cabs only. I never had heard the term "NGH" prior visiting this forum, in realife AES was just called "Neo-Geo" here, cabs being affordable is recent thing so is the need to use a specific word for the home system. NGH was just the title number for me (as used in the masterlist).

I don't care about weird Dion's stories, I never had to mess with this guy. And it's not because a guy you hate use a term you got to use another one just to show you're different. This sounds pretty childish.

Anyway, I don't care if it's called AES, NGH or whatever, as long as I know what it refers to. But I think it's stupid to abuse newbies just because they don't use the "right" word. It's sad to see this. annoyed

100% agreed and same here, always called it AES......always will.

Besides, it looks and sounds 100% better.

AES = term everyone is used to by now - the standard

NGH = artificially created acronym by some guys that wanted to distance themselves from NGF - now NGF is no more, so NGH shall vanish as well, sounds ultra-stupid as well btw :D

Although I think AES and NGH are both stupid terms, NGH WAS NOT artificially created. annoyed SNK uses it to label their games, look on the back of homecarts. For instance Magician Lord is NGH-005.

AES is kinda odd out out of the bunch. You have:

MVS
NGH
NGCD
NGPC

That's it folks. When I was growing up I never heard the term AES. It was always "homecart". Back then we didn't abbreviate anything because we spoke about it - internet wasn't really popular. If you're talking to somebody and say "Aye Eee Ess", you're probably a lot dumber than most would expect.

I was about to say the same thing. I just noticed the NGH-096 on the back of my art of fighting 3 right after I posted this thread.

Plus I didnt realize it said advanced entertainment system on the cd system (as I dont own one).

Magician Lord (e.g.) arcade cart has NGM-005. Shall we replace MVS with NGM?

What's your point? If you consider NGH means Neo Geo Home, then NGM probably mean Neo Geo MVS....

Nobodies trying to force anyone to stop using the term "AES".

But a lot of people associate it with some very negative things that have happened, and choose not to use it at all.

If you want to say "AES" fine. Go wild.

But some people just don't want to.

Exactamundo. I think that many of you are too new to know about the whole Dion thing. Indeed I wasn't there for the whole story, just a small portion of it. But that was enough to convince me :) . Honestly, I don't really care one way or the other. Does anyone here really give a rat's a$$ what acronym is used? Do we really have to bicker about that?

Yes, exactly. My point is that I'm unhappy that the "Neo-Geo" part is neglected with the MVS acronym. Multi-Video System is in itself a generic term that does not include a brand name. So from now on I'll use NGM or NGMVS besides NGH or NGHC.

NGA (Neo-Geo Arcade) would not be a bad idea as I fail to see how Multi-Video System can be applied to 1-slots...
