Hey, I'm pretty new to the Neo scene, so I have a few questions I hope can be answered here.

First, I see people selling 'converted' carts, and see other people selling 'original, not converted carts' (not trying to be stupid here, but that's how they title their stuff). Now my question is - what's the difference? The converted carts look just the same, with the case and everything. How can you tell the difference between converts and original games? Does the value decrease if they're converted?

Second, I notice a big difference when I play the NeoRageX, and my Neo AES system. Mainly the music, color, and/or picture itself. I heard many places that you can get it modded with all these enhancements, but I have yet to find one. Anybody know of a site, or a person to recommend?

Thanks to any who takes time to help a newbie out here. I appreciate it!

First on the converted cart thing.

The Neo Geo was unique for its time in the fact that its arcade and home systems were exactly alike. Right down to the ROM chips on the cartridges. The only physical difference between a home cart and an MVS cart is pinout. It is possible to take the ROM chips off of an MVS cart board and re-solder them onto a home cart board.

Viola! Instant rare game! However, to convert a cart, a homecart has to die. to make a game like Super DodgeBall, which never saw release, you need to desecrate another cart to get some home cart boards. Most of the time, a copy of something like Samurai Shodown 2 will do. But the thing is, there are only so many copies of NEO games out there. It never hand any million sellers, and I doubt it had any 100,000 sellers either. For that reason, many people dislike conversions. Arcade makes a converter that plays all MVS games, and it is only 300 dollars. The only thing you will miss is the boxes and manuals.

The mod that can be done is an S-video/stereo output mod. Jeff Kurtz or others in the tech forum can do a very clean, professional mod for you. S-video is beautiful, and Stereo is a pleasure.
