Ok, I'm considering purchasing a new TV, and it's probably going to be a Toshiba flat screen model, possibly Sony, but I doubt it. Right now I have a plain ol 27" Zenith and I'm getting some runoff, like everything that's displayed in-game doesn't fit on the screen. For example some games you cant see how many credits player 2 has remaining, or you can't see both players score, etc...so....

If I get a flat screen TV, will this eliminate this runoff?

It will eliminate MOST runoff, not all games are perfect as there is always that ONE game that comes out somewhat offscreen

I highly recommend the Toshiba over the Sony, as I have owned both and the Toshiba is the keeper

The run off your talking about it called Overscan. If you want to solve overscan you need a monitor where you can adjust screen size for each game.

Using a VGA or RGB monitor will solve this completely.

Untill TVs have contorls for screen size, you'll always get overscan, since it's 1 setting for all.

I have a Sony Wega myself. Using a special remote code, I can access the service menu. It lets me adjust geometry, screen size and position, etc. I can tell you that what works for one game on one system doesn't work for another. I'll adjust it so everything fits perfectly for my Neo, and then when I pop in an NES cart things are a mess. It's like they all use different standards or something.

Anyway, my TV has some annoying geometry issues. Don't fall for the "no distortion" crap they advertise. I haven't looked too closely at the Toshiba models, but the Wega definitely is NOT distortion-free. I don't think they've perfected the flat screen design yet. I'd try the Toshiba if I were you.
