Why does SNK's translation department suck?

They suck so much at translating Japanese to English that they have their own language, SNK-glish. Their pathetic attempts at translation usually make people laugh at the storyline rather than follow it. Why can't they translate anything right? Why make Ryo call his opponents dweebenheimers? How come English KoF has only one win quote for each character while Japanese KoF has multiple quotes? Are they lazy or are they lazy?

From what I have read on their site, they do not have a specific translation team, per se. It was simply up to each team developing a game to do the translation necessary.

TRANSLATED FROM JAPANESE:

Lee: "Hey Tetsuo, you took one year of English in secondary school, right?"

Tetsuo: "Yes I did, why?"

Lee: "How would I say, "I have awakened from my accursed sleep, to bring vengeance upon mine enemies!"

Tetsuo: "I awaken after 300 years to kick some butt!"

Lee: "Thanks, I will let you know when we need help again."

I still remember what Terry said in Match of the Millennium when you faced the "clone" team: "God! excrement!! [sic] <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">" Probably supposed to be "Holy shit!!"

That is one of my favourite lines, as well. The original Samurai ShoDown is still my favourite of the series. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

i remember that the MOTW's terry has broken english unlike the kof terry.he calls the power geyser,'power goofang' from what i hear.LOL!!

Not really. In MotW Terry says different things when he does his moves than in KoF/FF. For his Power Wave he says, "rock you!". For is Power Dunk he says, "beat that!" And likewise, his Power Geyser has him say, "go bang!"

Sheesh, I shouldn't have to correct you on this. Everyone should have played Garou by now. <IMG SRC="smilies/shame.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

Play through Fatal Fury 3. Probably the best dialogue in any Neo game. It doesn't really have a lot of English mistakes, but it's hilarious.

"What do you call something that has broken arms and legs and lays facedown in a pool? Bob!"

IMO, his Power Wave voice sounds like "Bakyuun!" (Japanese for "Bang!").

And just WHAT on Earth is "Cooperia"? Fatal Fury 3 holds the answer to that one- Bob Wilson knows all about it. <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
