I was just wondering if these games are
any good.

Sure they go for a lot of money but are they
worth it?

Im thinking about mabey getting them on
MVS cause I dont have the cash or paitence
to try to find them in AES flavor.

Your opinions on them would be greatly
appreciated so I know what I'm getting
in to.

BTW, here is some thing that you might find
interesting...

I was looking through my old EGMs and I came
across a review of Ninja Masters, it was either number 85 or 86 from 1996, and it
got a really poor rating. 3.5-4.5 to be exact.

AND on the last sentance of the last review
it said "is this game really worth $150,
I'd say no" or something along the lines
of that. $150!!! HA!

I would post up the review if I had the
ability to, but I thought that you guys
would get a kick out of it.

I like both games. definitely good to buy on the MVS. Kizuna is the weaker of the two. Ninja masters is just awesome. Too many characters I like to play as... Ranmaru....

I have Kizuna on home cart and Ninja Masters' on CD, and of the two, I'd say Ninja Masters' is probably the more enjoyable of the two - the low number of characters in Kizuna really hurt the replay value, IMO.

Although, truth be told, I don't think either game is as good as their hype makes them out to be. Fun, yes, but not nearly as good as the price might lead you to believe; there are a number of much better fighters available for the Neo at a significantly lower cost.

Good choice, hunting for these on MVS - that's what I'm going to be doing once I get a little extra spending money.

man whoever says these 2 games suck has no neo class...

ninja masters is a kick ass game..

and the bgs in kizuna are dark and errie and are some of the best on neo...

they both show there age but both have some really good fighters and have a unique feel to them that differs from the same ol shit on neo..

i suggest getting them both on mvs you wont be disapointed...

in fact they are relitivly cheap on mvs..

both can be had for about 70 buks on ebay if your lucky..

get em both man...

besides the end boss in ninja masters is insane, not to mention the nice amount of blood splatter during hits..

damn im goin to play it right now...

I have a mixed answer for you. Personally, I enjoy the play mechanics of Kizuna MUCH better than Ninja Masters (although I enjoy Ninja masters too). The thing is, I only enjoy Kizuna more when I am using the better characters and of those, there are not very many. Kim is awesome, so is the chic with the sword (forget name), and the boomerang dude ain't bad either. Beyond that, the quality drops off kinda fast.

The ninja guys in Kizuna a ok, but not near as cool as the others IMO (in terms of being fun to play). So, I guess this is really a half answer. The engine is Kizuna is much closer to Real Bout, so, with the right characters, it is a blast to play.

Ninja Masters is a bit more like playing Killer Instinct, but not quite as bad (IMO). I find that I like MORE characters in NM than I do in Kizuna, but the game engine in Kizuna is more to my liking.

If you are looking to buy NGH's (NeGeoHome carts, as they are referred to by SNK) I would say look elsewhere and get better games for your money. If you are looking for MVS games, these are both CHEAP carts (like $40) and totally worth it if only because they offer somehting different than the rest of the Neo library.

Good luck!

I hear you Fran - Ninja Master`s is definitely one of the BEST fighters out there on the Neo involving one of the fanciest combo systems! Everything is top notch in there: Music, Characters, backgrounds simply everything.

Don`t know about Kizuna. I need that game NOW...

About Garou: What I like most about that one is the cooooool sound inferno when you win by Super Special Moves - especially with B.Jenets winning animation! <IMG SRC="smilies/drool.gif" border="0">

different other than KOF and LB.

Also I'll be getting them on MVS so I really
don't have anything to lose.

Ultimately, Spike, it's your decision. Tastes and preferences differ greatly among various people, so I won't give you an answer as to which game I like better. Your best bet (as you mentioned) is to get them both on MVS cartridges (hey, it beats paying $900-$3000 for both games).

I know I'm getting in late on this thread. Sorry. I have both games on home cart, and as far as playability goes, I'd recommend Ninja Master's over Super Tag. Super Tag's combo system is generic and weak, and most of the character sprites are recycled from Savage Reign (which was a truly amazing, innovative, and underrated fighting game). Ninja Master's has a weird canned chain-combo system that you can uncover by mashing buttons, though there's a little more to it than that (not much, though). It's also interesting because you can use chain combos while fighting barehanded or with your weapon drawn. If I remember correctly, one of the characters (Karasu) has a pretty spectacular chain in which he draws his sword in mid combo. Then again, he also has a stupidly easy 50% combo (crossup B, standing A, Bx3, qcb+B). Ninja Master's also had an ABC "powerup" mode that paved the way for SS4's rage explosion; there's a lot of Ninja Master's in both SS4 and Last Blade. One thing about it is that the character sprites are relatively tiny; Kizuna Encounter has those big, healthy-looking Savage Reign sprites.

If you're strapped for cash and are having trouble affording either game, I say go for a copy of Savage Reign, instead.

Savage Reign was an amazing game for a lot of reasons. It had completely insane characters, lots of weird-but-innovative features, the 2-plane play of Fatal Fury (with built-in, plane-only special moves) and the different dash levels (regular dash and jump dash), not to mention the level hazards, and the throw escapes/reversals (which are bad, but weren't common back then). It also had surprisingly tight control and let you pull off some crazy combos (my favorite combo in that game was any combo that involved Joker's inflatable-head DM).

Did I mention it had completely insane characters? The devs just went to town with Savage Reign's characters. Gozu and Mezu were gas-mask-wearing freak ninjas(?!), Gordon was a huge, fat, crooked cop, and King Lion was... this... huge... guy with a suit of armor, big fluffy mohawk, a steel sword, and boxing gloves(?!?!). And Joker... do I even need to explain this one? A homicidal 80's retro-new-wave skate-punk version of Ronald McDonald. Who fights with a giant toy hammer that makes a hilarious sound when it connects. And has a special attack called "Murder Hat." (Yes, "Murder Hat.") Joker's new box of axes and swords was kind of cool in Super Tag, but the stone/iron sledgehammer was unforgiveable, at least for me.

Also, if you played Savage Reign in English, the 1P vs. CPU had classic wise-cracking SNK dialogue (AOF2-style stuff). Gordon to Gozu: "Do I smell donuts? Fork 'em over!" Gozu (who wears gigantic talons on his wrists) to Gordon: "Oh, I'll fork it over, all right. Heh heh." I don't even remember Super Tag's win quotes.

Also, just take a look at that intro sequence. They couldn't have intended that to be completely serious. A grungy-looking guy holding up a wooden boomerang (of all things), screaming? Completely absurd. Ridiculous. You laugh at first, but (to quote The Simpsons) you can't help but admire the force of his conviction.

Also, Savage Reign's English announcer (King Leo) was amazing. One of the best fighting game announcers of all time, right up there with SS1. Super Tag's was just lame ("Are you ready? Beat up.").

I wanted to like Super Tag. I really, really wanted to like Super Tag, especially since I paid $600 for it. I tried to play the heck out of it, but couldn't stomach it. The way they just recycled the exact same sprites (which didn't look all that good to begin with) was dirty, especially how they recycled old frames of animation for "new" moves (like how Gozu's fire-bombs move uses his old win-pose animation... that's just cheap). Look at Eagle's Super Tag version of his Eagle Special DM... that animation-recycling isn't even subtle. Also, they recycled one of the background stage's music tracks (Hayate's from Savage Reign) in Super Tag, for crying out loud.

If you're more of a Super Tag fan, more power to you, but I myself, personally, will take Savage Reign over Super Tag any day.

Kizuna was really incomplete. There was something so missing from the story of the characters - especially Rose and Kim.

I liked Savage reign for the background conversations that go on in the game.

Hey, I'll give Kizuna the compliment of improving Eagle, and Jyazu is really cool, but Kizuna was not really done.

I have Ninja Masters on Neo CD and Kizuna on MVS. Ninja Masters just strikes me as awesome!!! That game has really cool characters and I love playing it. In some reviews it says that they don't like the "Dial-a-Combo" system, but in fact I think it works great in this game, unlike other games like BIO FREAKS *shudder* I also really like the ability to use or not use your weapon.

Ninja Masters is high on my list of TOP fighter games, and it just oozes with style.

Now Kizuna is a good fighter. Although it is not as good as Ninja Masters and doesn't reach the level of the Last Blade series in awesomeness. I mean Rose is nice with her Sword :-P, but it just doesn't seem to hold my interest too long (maybe that will change if I play it more).

I'm gonna catch some flak for this one but currently I think Breakers Revenge is better than Kizuna. <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">

And I would definitely recommend buying the MVS. MVS=
1. so blatently, obviously, without a doubt, so obsenely, you can't miss it, right in front of your face..... you get the picture CHEAPER!
2. If you buy a game you don't like you can always be thankful that you didn't spend 200-1,000 doing so.

Well thats my 2 bits for now.

Fighting Game Nut Gerken out.

Ouch! That might have killed me on getting this one. It better not be as bad as TEKKEN or MK3! I despise games that encourage you to go little-kid on the buttons. Give me the grace and technique of SF or LB anyday over this drek!

Man, your discussions of Kizuna just wet my lips even more about it! Soon, !Arcade's! modded neo will be back in the mail. That MVS cart of Kizuna is feeling very lonely on my shelf.. <IMG SRC="smilies/ohno.gif" border="0">

Kizuna is a very good game (I had the chance to play it on MVS lately). I wouldn't say it's the *best* Neo game (well, in my opinion), but it sure is the most *unique* fighter available on the system. Go for the MVS cart if you want it, it's definitely worth its price (not the AES price tho).

Too bad there's no CD version of KE. Heh, that would ruin the collectors market! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Ninja Master's (which I have on CD) offers a cool engine and several unusual features (katana or non-katana battle selection during the game, etc.). It's fun to play but hard to master.

However, the price tag of the AES versions of these games and their availability prevented these titles from ever catching on.

It's a pity that there are NM and KE carts rotting on the shelves instead of sticking in console slots... <IMG SRC="smilies/ohno.gif" border="0">
