Matrimelee insert preferences, part 1

Some suggestions were brought up by several members concerning the Matrimelee insert design. Please review <a href="http://www.neo-geo.com/snk/releases/matrimelee/insert/vote.html" target="_blank">this web page</a> which contains illustrated comparisons and let us know what your preferences are by participating in this poll.

I would prefer a vivd red or a vivid oragnge or pink background for this game.

It's a quick mock up and by no means perfect, but it could serve as another option? The borders could be replaced with literally any color, but as an example they are black. (sun logo looks best on it)

Errors:
borders not perfect (just mock ups), background white color doesn't mesh well (easily changed), sun logo outside border could be taken out (but I like it since it aligns well with the top of the girls hat), the matrimelee logo on the cover could be bigger so that it pops out around the borders more (ala the girls hat)

Or here is an alternate I just whipped up:

Because I like the logo on the cover so much more...

I'm sure a real artist could do these much more justice.

I originally voted for the white cover, there's lots of contrast with that, and the gray makes everything seem drab...

However, I just saw Cole's mock-up, and I'd have to say that looks pretty snazzy as well, possibly more so than the white.

I'm just talking from a design point of view, personally I'm going to be picking up the Japanese version.

I really and seriously preferred another colour, but between the grey and white I would choose WHITE all the way buttrock .

Even though I recognise I prefer the new style under an esthetical point of view, I have voted for the old style one because it matches better with the other ENG games made by SNK and, in the end, basically the new style spine is a mixture of the Jap spine with the US one so if you buy both Jap and US versions of this game you will end up having the new stile
one glee smirk wink .

BTW: I love the design of the back of the insert back. I think that the overall design of insert is much better and cool than the ROTD and MS4 ones

I would have preferred a pastel pink or blue background. Would fit perfectly with the rest of the WTH characteristic of the game.

I voted no preference, as I am not collecting English carts. But I did like the fact I got a say in the backgrounds.

Ofcourse wink That will affect you, since you collect japanese carts.

I only saw the percentage of new style voters
increase, and I dont feel it is right
To say that one prefer "New style" when they
arent going to buy the english version.
I wouldnt vote about the look of japanese versions
since I dont buy them, better leave that to you
guys...

Voted, even though I'll most likely be going MVS on this one. I just don't know about the white background, it just makes the insert look way too bright (although it's still better than KoF 2002's pink )

Shawn, in the poll do you mean "backround" or "boarders" as they are two different things.
I actually don't mind the white backround. if they could put boarders I would choose grey (for uniformity with other carts) but probably not black as it clashes with the artworks colors to much. I do hate the black bar across the bottom though as it just screws with the whole insert and looks low quality. I would also vote for correct placement of the meg count box on the spine and the original matrimelee logo (from the front of the insert) on the spine of the game, like kole did.
of those 4 preferences the meg count box place ment, logo spine and ugly black bar across the bottom would make this insert practicaly perfect.

Once again I have updated the mock ups. This time there are alternate versions with 'matrimelee' on the spine for those who prefer it to the full logo. Also, the enlarged logo on the front has been removed.

Bah, I just don't like the way gray looks with this insert. My real vote would be to give the insert creator freedom to choose a background color that meshes with the rest of the design.

I'm kind of liking the white. On the yellow I should have filled in the area behind the girls with the same yellow and left a border like I did with white. Probably would have looked better. I wouldn't have minded doing some some MOTW grey/black background images but I don't have suitable matrimelee art nor the patience.

Shawn, thanks for posting this poll and allowing us to express our opinion in this manner. I believe this is one of the finest ways of listening to your customers as it officially gathers pertinent data to the topic of question.

I prefer the white insert wholeheartedly. It amplifies the matrimony effect (as marriage is tied with the color of white). I think it is approprate. Also I firmly believe MEG counts need to stay exactly where they have always been. Seeing a lineup of AES game spines with the MEG counts offcenter is not pretty.

Cole these new designs are very cool. Certainly yellow was another great option; however I will prefer the orange one. I guess that the problem with red and pink is that they will not match with the red sun’s logo. Nice work.
