Ok boys and girls listen up and listen well:

I believe we should show SNK/Brezza/Playmore/whoever what we think they should do in order to survive.

I believe that now is the time for them to switch development over to a new system and regain a substantial share of the 2D fighting market.

My points:

1.) As sweet and as beautiful as the MVS is (I still get amazed at watching the SDM animation of KOF98) I think that to get more mainstream people (ie. Money) in SNK's pocket they should switch just like capcom did to Naomi or some other reasonable platform. This would allow them to upgrade the graphics (no need for 3D! This point must be made!), and the sounds of the new game thus making it more attractive to the casual arcade player/gamer.

2.) It would also allow for easy porting to home consoles. This is also very important because the arcade scene isn't what it used to be and the most money is made in the MAINSTREAM home market (this means PS2, XBox, GC, and DC, NOT THE AES).

3.) With Capcom on a self imposed 2D fighter hiatus then there will be quite a big hole to be filled in the 2D fighter genre and w/ the above improvements SNK would be able to capture a large share of the market.

I know a lot of people here hate this idea but its what will make the company survive. I'm going to write an email to Playmore, Brezza, and SNK NEO GEO about this and I'd appreciate it if you all did the same.

Peace

Do you think you got a better knowledge of all the companies ?
Do you think you are well placed to give advices?
We don't really know what is going to happen now! Just wait!
Playmore already annouced a partnership with capcom and sega! What for?... just wait and see!
Playmore is already producing games for the dreamcast and the Psone and even titles are annouced to be released on the PS2!
You can write to them of course, they will probably laugh at you!

They know how much money they got, they know how is the video games market!
I think they would prefer you don't flood their mail box by sending such useless advices!

The only bitter taste is knowng that the games won't be released on the Neo Geo black and gold. But it's a good idea. It's unemulated, yet due to emulation SNK has grown its fanbase considerably (the non-paying kind that still buy crap for the PS2 might buy SNK games if not at $300 a pop).

I would support a move to make games on the naomi, however, looking at how the games turned out on the PSX, like Athena, Koudelka, KoF Kyo, and Warriors Rage 2, I honestly don't have much faith in the SNK staff programming for a non-MVS hardware.

Cool it, Scalpeur. It's not that stupid. Plus, have you ever been to Japan yourself? Have you ever heard the acrid and unforgivable comments made by japanese videomaniacs towards the lazzy and twisted SNK USA financial directives?

Mmm, Scalpeur? Have you?

No I haven't. and what for? (even if I would like but I don't think it's a primary condition to be able to give his own opinion about this topic)

The facts is that playmore is already releasing titles on others homes consoles, so do you think it would be interesting for them to hear someone telling them they should do that by knowing it's already what they are doing?

Plus, If playmore got partnership with Capcom and sega (brezzasoft?) then all can be expected and I'm sure they already consider the question of doing games on the naomi or the CPS it is probably a part of the partnerchip.
As I said, we have to wait and see!

all what was said was already done or considered for sure! So it's useless to send a mail for that!

On the contrary, sending ideas about a new game or about what to change in a game to improve it may be a good reason to send a mail...

The neo should stay. even if you made A new MVS system that was destined to succed chances are it would not. there seems to be some curse on the arcade market with that (cps2 to cps 3, etc).

SNK must realize that they must (possibly) make SOME games for other arcade hardware. there other area MUST be QUALITY ports to home and portable systems in abbundance. why mo games on the GB advance? just look at namco and sega, they know how to use thier properties to rake in extra cash. Capcom is the best at this, cashing in on the mainstream titles while still catering to true gamers with other releases. SNK has not gotten the jist of this yet and if they do not they are fucked, plain and simple.

guy, that has to be one of the most uneducated comments I have read. First off, there is NO official "partnership" between playmore and that companies you speak of, just some very small busines ties.also, the "new releases" you speak of for other platforms are RE-releases, not new ports, only kof 2000 is new and look how late that title is. secondly, MANY if not MOST of the people who are involved in the neo "scene" can tell you that SNK usa (and even japan) were pitifull businesses that, in all honesty, could have been run better with the imput from many of there fans. thier failure was not because of anything else but thier own morbid stupidity and they deserved to fail. capcom is A company of the same mold and is thriving because they have the common sense SNK never had and they don't show the stubbornes and idiocy that SNK flaunted with disregard. SNK did ask for the advice of those out side the comany towards the end of thier life, but it was to little to late and it led to thier imminant grave. I always liked everything about SNK with the ecception of the people who ran the show, and unfortunately thet were enough to completely destroy the company.

2D can live in arcades only with MVS... look what happen with the Crystal System...
There's no arcade operator of this world who will invest in a new 2D hardware...
The strong point of MVS is his worldwide distribution and his cheap costs...
There's no place for a 2D machine in arcades now, except for MVS...

Have playmore change their name to Capcom, and they may have a chance. ;)

if they make a new mvs like you are saying atleast make backwards compatible not a whole new completely different system that would suck but make another cartridge based mvs system that will play the new mvs-2 and mvs-1 games that is what i think they should do.like how ps2 will play ps1 and ps2 games.i think this is the best way because you have people that like all the origanal games and also get to play the new one's
