For me it has to be when I first saw fatal fury 2 in the arcades and thought to myself this game looks even better than streetfighter 2,after that I just had to get the system, best thing I ever did

I come from a long line of Videogame players. It was only natural that I take after my father, and his father, and his father...

Very truthfully, more than anything else, because it was the NEO·GEO. All other reasons came secondary to that.

Although I enjoy and respect SF II a great deal, it was really the Neo Geo and its early games that made me a fan of arcade games and whatnot.

Well for everyone else on the board its cos they sniffed a neo cart and said "cor thats good,i gotta get me more of them" j/k .

For me its cos i am a fan of arcades and i wanted some retro stuff, the neo geo stood above other machines that i played on cos of sam sho1/2,i didnt like streetfighter much,i knew about the neo geo from when it came out
but i was too young with no money at the time
so the interest faded, then about a year ago
i thought about the machine and considered trying to find one so thats where it all started,so im very new to the scene.

Actually im not the only one,i mean theres alot on this board that are younger than me
(im 21) like mooky hes 15! he would have only been 5 when the machine came out.

This is a good question lee,cos i was wondering how the younger ones got into this aswell.

I simply have expensive tastes. But since I was only 9 when the Neo came out, I could only afford playing the games at the arcades. That's when I knew I had to have the system.

I was hooked on Ghouls and Ghosts, and ML was very similar to it. IMO, ML was better graphically. I knew I had to have it, but I could not afford it. 10 years has past, and I finally have it.

Long backstory. Prepare thyselves...

I first knew about the Neo-Geo back in late 1991, when there was an advertisement for it in Gamepro. I didn't get to experience the true power of Neo-Geo until August 1992, when I saw Fatal Fury and Sengoku at an arcade in Delaware. Before May 1993, my only experience with Neo-Geo games was through ports of Fatal Fury 2, Art of Fighting, and World Heroes for the Super NES. In May 1993, I saw World Heroes and Fatal Fury 2 in their full glory on an MVS system at a nearby arcade (I would also see Samurai Shodown in December 1993 and Art of Fighting 2 in August 1994 at that same arcade). But I didn't really get into Neo-Geo until June 4th, 1995, when I saw the King of Fighters '94 at a nearby arcade. As I took a gander at that game, I was amazaed by the number of characters that were in that game from other games (Fatal Fury, AoF, etc.). The graphics and music blew away anything I had ever played before. Right then and there, I knew that I wanted to get a Neo-Geo. Sadly, the large price tag held me back. From then on, I didn't make much contact with anything else Neo-Geo related (except in December 1998, when I saw The King of Fighters '98 at an arcade in Disney-MGM studios).

In December 2000, I got Capcom vs SNK for a Christmas present. As I played it, I instantly recognized many of the characters (Kyo, Benimaru, Terry, Ryo, etc.) from the King of FIghters series, and soon, a wave of resurgance hit me. I wanted to know more about the King of Fighters, and in April of this year, I bought KOF: Dream Match 1999 and KOF: Evolution for the Dreamcast. But that wasn't enough; I wanted to know more about the King of Fighters series when I stopped following it in 1995. So I visited a King of Fighters website, got the whole backstory, and now wanted to play the previous years even more badly than ever. Thanks to a modded Playstation, I was able to play import copies of King of Fighters 96 & 97 (95 was released domestically, so I didn't need a modchip for that).

To this day, I still don't own a Neo-Geo AES system. But one day, when I finally rack up the available funds (and find a place that doesn't sell shoddy home carts *cough* *cough* Neo-Geo Freak *cough* *cough*), I, too, will be able to partake in the Neo-Geo experience.

Fatal Fury 2.

I had been considering it for a while before then (I had always loved playing the Neo games in the arcades), but it was just too far out of my price range. When I first saw the preview pics of the upcoming sequal to Fatal Fury though, I just KNEW I had to have the system no matter the cost!
