How many levels does Metal Slug 3 have?

How many missions are there in metal slug 3?
Is it 5 missions? I know there are different paths to take in each mission, but how many actual missions are there? Also, let's say that in level one there are 3 different routes to take, how many different routes are there in the entire game?

5 levels, but level 5 seems like 5 levels in itself because it's so long.

Thanks for the info, do you think it is a longer game than metal slug x? If so, about how much longer, say twice as long, etc.?
