Guys,

Had a spare Neo AES motheboard laying around the house and felt creative.

<a href="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kpj78/electronics.jpg" target="_blank">Motherboard</a>

It is far from finished; handle will DEFINITELY be changed, it needs to be painted, a logo will be attached, etc.... Thought I'd share my creation with some of you.

<a href="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kpj78/cabinet.jpg" target="_blank">Table</a>

It's fully functional, including both controller ports (not pictured) , Debug Bios Uprade (not pictured) & full mods (S-Video, Stereo L/R, Composite Video, etc...)

I am waiting on a few more parts, including DB15 Controller terminals that will be mounted somewhere; not sure yet.

Some of these images may take some time to load, since they are 300K+ in size.

<a href="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kpj78/more_guts2.jpg" target="_blank">Wooden Shell</a>

<a href="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kpj78/table_joysticks.jpg" target="_blank">Table & Joysticks</a>

This post will be updated until the project is complete!

Guys,

Thanks for the complements.

I don't have kids around my house, so the chance of something falling into the cartridge slot is minimal. I will probably be the only one that uses this piece o' furniture.

The Neo motherboard is suspended from the top wooden shell. I don't have it together now since I had to install the Bios & new controller ports. It's pretty interesting. The cartridges fit nice and securely. They "sink" lower in the cartridge slot than in a standard AES system. Basically, the bottom of the cart sticker is the lowest portion you will see when playing.

The 2nd controller port was removed for no apparent reason (by me, of course). I changed my mind on the layout once it was taken out, so I now have to solder it back on. I would like to install custom DB15 Sockets on the cabinet itself, instead of running Neo extension cables throughout the whole table.

I should have it complete within a week or two. I'll have more pictures up by the weekend.

Wow, nice thing you got going on there.

Integrated controllers would be pretty wicked as well :)

Cheers !

What the fuck is that? I can see building a neo into a coffee table, that is one thing, but that thing is huge! Um, to each their own, but that takes up more room then a candy... is just asking for something to be spilled on/in it and... well, is plain fugly now (but it may look better when it is done).

Creative... maybe, but back to that old adage.. Just because you can do something, doesn't necessarily mean you should :)

The unit is 48" long and roughly 24" deep. It's not too large.

When I first got a Neo, I (along with a few buds) would play on his big screen and sit on a couch. We always needed a place to rest our joysticks & system (since this was when there was no Neo CD &/or hand pads; 92/93)

I'll be the first to admit that it's quite ugly at it's current stage, but your missing my objective. I wanted to make a piece of gaming furniture. I don't know about you, but the Neo is the most widely played system in my house. So why not do something different? My job has been slow so I had to extinguish my creative energy somewhere :)

When the project is done, it'll blend well with the standard table. People in the art business know that nothing looks right until the task is roughly 80% complete.

I am in no way offended/upset by your post. I expected some to hate it, but I wanted to share it with you guys.

Hey Kenny! I remember you talking about doing something like this a while ago. I gotta' say, that's a pretty cool idea and it looks like you're well on your way. Well, keep us up to date on what you're doing with it. I'm anxious to see it when it's all done up. :D

it's probably too late, but it would be awesome if you could attach an LCD screen to the table and have it fold in. You know, like one of the old 5" PSone screens from interact that allowed for external video sources. drool_2

Charlez,

I don't plan on doing that anytime soon, but who knows where this project will go.

I just wanted to make something different. Something I could get use of.

Good idea though!

Looks smooth. Crafty building it into a table like that.

I recognize some of those parts wink

Got a question though. Where did you get that dope ass SVideo connector at? That thing looks fucking heavy duty.

Thanks for the kudos.

Those S-Video sockets are kick ass. I put them on all my AES mods too.

There is a local shop near my house that puts Radio Shack to shame; I get them there.

What a great idea! I've always been a fan of custom console/computer enclosures. In addition to a slick paint job, I think a cool lid (to cover the slot) with the snk or neo geo logo on it would complete this piece nicely.

I like it.

A long time ago I suggested that someone create an all-wood exterior AES system
- this is the closest thing I've seen yet

Am I the only one who is confused here. So what you did was turn a table or a desk into a Neo-Geo.
Help me out here. I read what you said about so you can put your controllers on a table or whatever but I still don't understand why you would want to do something like that but I guess thats just me.
Oh yeah then if you get sick of it you could sell it on ebay for lots-o-money:rock:

Nruva made a good point,

What are you going to do to prevent spills?

Looks like it could end up falling into the cart slot!
