Now I know it's not easy to come across snap lock cases by themselves, but I was thinking if I ever found a few, I would like to transfer my Neo games in the old style cases to the snap lock cases. They just look much nicer and are more durable, imo. My question to the collectors here is this:

If someone did something like this, would you value the game higher since it is the nicer case, or lower since it wouldn't be original anymore?

A lot of people would frown on that cuz like you stated, putting an older Neo game in a newer style case would make it unoriginal, hence lowering the value. Personally I wouldn't care. They are your carts and if switching to snap cases suits you, then go for it. mr_t

Games are collectors items, and thus are higher valued in their original forms.

If you did come across extra boxes, you would probably make a good profit just off of selling them as is.

I prefer old style cases anyway, because as long as they're not abused, they are easier to work with. The snap lock on the snap lock cases breaks off if used for a long time. You have to keep them open all the time to make sure they don't break... It's annoying.

Keep in mind that insert for old style case is a bit larger than new style snap one.

If you try to put old insert into new style case then you have to "alter" the original by cutting off the extra areas.

To me is a big no-no spock

This is hard to me...

I think the old-style cases look better with their glossy plastic and bigger insert. But the snaplocks feels more durable and safer in some way. It adds a feel of status to the carts i think but i couldn´t say which one is better...

Neither case is perfect; both are fundamentally flawed. The cart trays in the old-style boxes are all too often broken after years of being on the aftermarket, and the newer cases mangle inserts (I've never had trouble with clasps breaking off).

That said, any collectibe should be kept as close to its original form as possible, if you're at all concerned with value. If you don't intend on selling your games, do what you like with them.

I did not know that.

Nevermind to doing that then. No way I'm cutting up an insert. I'm not NGF. lol

The only perfect cases ever produced by SNK are the NGP clamshells.

No insert harms, cilp of the (double cased!) cart, proper place for instruction blookets and sheets.

Having finally produced a kind of package actually looking as a retail merchandise, not as a bulk one as the NeoGeo 'big' cases did and do, SNK was finally doomed to meet its fate.

And so it did.

I have yet to experience a broken snap of a new-style case which has not happened in 7+ years of collecting now. Care is everything.

The snap-lock design is sooooo flawed - the stupid embossed SNK logo that scapes the back of the cart, and all those stupid little holes in the top and bottom edges that put tiny 'dents' in the insert... Mind you that's a catch 22 - if SNK made the inserts from heavier paper stock the holes would not affect the insert. The gsm for genuine inserts is too light imo.
The embossed SNK logo is just not needed...

Old style cases are brilliant if they're looked after, although you need to watch that the inserts don't go over the protective vinyl or you'll end up damaging the upper edges. The inner tray is a bit naff, but they could have made it stronger.

The best thing about the old style cases is the smell. You don't get that intoxicating vinyl aroma from the snap locks :)

Really the reason why I like the old cases more is, as stated earlier, because they protect the inserts better.

I hate the old style cases. Tray cracks easily, insert pops up wearing out the top. The vinyl splits at the joints where the case bends. Clear plastic tends to wrinkle. The clamshell clips won't break as long as you don't fold them all the way up when you open the shell. You'd have to work the clip back and forth many times before it would snap off.

Oh yes. Truly annoying that. And you can do nothing against it. crying

God can I agree with that. That used to be one of my favorite things (asthetically speaking) about the neo. That smell just reminds me of neo goodness. It's definetly one of my favorite smells of all time.

Yea I know. i never had one break off but I'm scared of it so I keep em open.
