I have a big problem.

I have recently been made mod of the retro games section on this forum:

http://www.gamesevolved.com/

I now have the big problem of no bloody member using the retro section, it's not so much a lack of users, they have a fair number it is just that the bastards can't seem to see whats so great about playing games 10 years old and bugger off to play their Fifa 2003 or whatever.
All I am asking is what can I do to change the minds of these fools and make them see what retro gaming like the the Neo, Mega drive, SNES ect is all about to make them see what the rest of us do.

Talk about the hidden Panzer Dragoon game in Panzer Dragoon Orta.

It's hard to get people to play retro games without actually being in the same room with the people you want to convince. Whenever I have a party at my place I drag out the ol' Neo and after awhile most people get into playing.

As for your question...

Start a poll in your site's General Forum asking 'What is your favourite retro game?'

The "Retro" Plan

Step One:

Get a Neo Geo system and an X-box.

Step Two:

Sit the one you are convincing infront of the xbox and the neo geo system.

Step Three:

Attach shock collar to subject.

Step Four:

Apply shock thearapy when subject reaches for Xbox.

Send them all a Neo Geo with MS3, MSX, KOF 2K2 and Last Blade 1 and 2 :) Then they'll see the true power of "retro" gaming! Of course, that'd be really expensive...

I'd say most of the members there download ROMS, but if they are anything like some of the "gamers" I know, they wouldn't know good games from their asshole, and since they don't want to play the "classics", they wouldn't download the ROMS. Most of the newer people to gaming see the old "retro" stuff as graphically inferior (which it can be), which automatically makes the game/gameplay inferior. Nothing you can do will change that, short of forcing them to play the good old games (like the list above).

Good luck in your quest.

You cant convince them to be retro !

a true Retrogamer is home grown , and plays old games from his own past .

Think about it this way ....

all of the people who are into X-Box and PS2 now will probably get back into them say 10 years in the future after they are long gone and there are newer systems 10 times more powerful when todays Next Gen systems are tomorrows history .

If there are members there that allready play reto games they will eventually post .

Otherwords :

people who are new to the gaming industry might find it hard to go backwards and appreciate graphics that are yesterdays standard especially when todays games are getting more and more realistic , think about it .... When you had your first NES and your daddy tried to show you his ATARI ...wich did you prefer to play .

I think it's not going to be easy; to the casual gamer, a retro game is Sega Smash Pack and a retro console is the Dreamcast.

Casual gamers are just that, "casual gamers". It's a bit tough to find people under the age of 21 who are into what I call "the good stuff", ie retro. But, my son is a year & a half old & will be brought in the ways of the Intellevision, NES, SMS & of course Neo-Geo!!

Intellevision rocks 'cause I say so buttrock buttrock buttrock

I'm not saying this is a general rule of thumb, so please dont anybody get in a tissy.

Most casual gamers now-a-day buy whats new because they are trained that "it is better". They trade in all of their old stuff to get the new stuff because "it is better". Honestly, a friend was tellin me he was hopping around some X-box forms to see what people thought of CVS2:EO and how it played online and the main topic was what SNK meant and how it was pronounced. It's horrible that people do not give classic games credit for what they are, but they are not in the forfront of the media and most games stores do not even sell classic games any more. The ones that do have a very dwindling and limited supply of crap titles that nobody wants anyway. Here is an example of what I mean. My nephew (who is about 8) love to play Zelda on the N64. Everytime he visits he wants to play it. One time I threw in Link to the Past on my SNES to see if he would like it. He now refers to that as the "Fake Link" game and the N64 as the "Real Link" game. Most classic gamers, are as stated before, people who are old enough to remember games as they were and still enjoy playing those games as much or more than the new stuff. I fall into that catagory. Too many times I see teens "try" to like classic games, but it all ultimately turns back into, "I could use this money for X-Box or PS2 stuff". Honestly man, I wouldnt even try to convince them because its a dead cause. I know from experience.

Don't even bother modding for that msg board, that is if they talk roms and Pokemon too much.

I learned my lesson about that at Pocket Gamers. the minute I posted a picture of my AES lot with my NES collection happening to be in the picture, those n00bs were like *at my shelf of 200 NES cartridges* "wow! what system do those go to?"
>"I never knew there was a prequel to Metroid"

Other gamers started posting their collections. But it's nothing but Gamecube.

BTW anyone know who that woman is in my avatar? she look fine as hell!

You do not need to remember games from back in the day to love retro games. I am sixteen going on seventeen and love retro games that I have no memories of playing at all that came out when I was only two years old. 2d games are just better in most cases, so I play them more. I guess that nostalgia is part of it though, I mean when I play my AES I think of all the good times that I spent playing MVS down at the local Pizza place.

Hehehehe...Retro Gaming? I work in a store that does most of its earnings off of nothing but retro. I was hired based on my knowledge of gaming history! While it is rare, you would be suprised how many young whipper snappers buy an NES, Atarai, and even the P.O.S. 32X (has a note, it only had 31 games released in the U.S.). It is starting to pick up a bit, but it is still going to be slow.
