Marco Rodriguez in Japan in Kushnood Butt in English mode. Couldn't tell you why. I don't think a dumber name could be imagined. Not sure what was wrong with Marco for the English verion, but oh well.

I learned the japanese name first, I was surprised he wasn't named marco later on. I guess we all can relate easier to marco, right?

Marco could be Dominican, Puerto Rican, or Cuban.... I didn't read anything in the instruction manual that says he is from Mexico?

Who is the other Mexican?

That is Tizoc, which explains his cameo in the Mexico stage in KOF 2002.

What makes us think that Kushnood Butt is Mexican as well?

Actually, I dont really care, but since we started this, lets finish it and come to some agreement. :D

.....because the Brasilians are clamoring for Paul Rodriguez and his "witty observations".

His name change was senseless! Marco is a semi cool name... Kushnood on the other hand is NOT. Rodrigez is a common last name but nothing wrong with that. BUTT is a crack fed, hyper colors spank game name.

If I had my honest guess, seeing how Marco is black and lives in Southtown, I'd venture he has a spanish father and black mother. NYC's the melting pot ya know.

Khushnood Butt just sounds pakistani to me???

But than again Butt is also an english surname.

I would guess the "khushnood Butt" persona was made to cater to the vast Mvs audience in the middle east (PS: have you ever seen any of teh arcades in dubai!, they are full of pakistanis)

Actually, it doesn't matter if he had a black mother or not, there are people who looks black with the Spanish speaking world, I guess you can say. I had a friend in middle school and I though he was black because he looked black, found out he was mexican and both parents were mexican, just darker skin...so maybe it's the same with Kushnood/Marco. Just a tought though...

Well I think Marco was made for the black audience although as usual he's a walking stereotype.

Things like when he tells Tizoc he's gonna make him into fried chicken *vey* and his Pink and green Gi (mmms Watermelon! ugh) pretty much pegs him.

The only black fighters I know that were treated with so so respect is K' and Heavy D. On average SNK seems to have more cool black fighters though. Look at Capcom. Sean is the closest thing to a decent fighter and he's a running joke too. (Although he's brazilian)

It's no secret that on whole the Japanese do not like african people. Anyone who's studied the smallest bit of Japanese history knows that. It still disgusts me though that to this day that attitude exists in some forms.

Heh, its not just limited to blacks.

Any race that isn't japanese is considered foreign, or gaijin.

Terry Bogard looks to be an old american sterotype, at least to me.

But anyway, its nothing to get too worked up over, at most its a silly depiction with no deep or hidden meanings attached.

I think its just an homage to the old Bruce Lee classic, "Enter the Dragon". Some artworks look almost exactly like the movie poster, its amusing.

K' is black?? I always thought he had a dark tan. In fact, some pictures make him seem white. Still, KOF could stand some diversity, and maybe K' was supposed to add to that. It still should be more diverse.

Yo man. Checked out your collection. What is the Dr. Boy? Was it a GB boot or like the Couger Boy and had it's own soft?

It looks like a GB, but it's basically a self-contained 121-in-1 Famicom clone with a crappy (I don't even know how to play it) LCD game built into it. It barely works now; the power connection seems skittery because the thing will randomly reset and turn off. The power adapter that came with it didn't even work, and when I got a new one from Radio Shack, it worked, but I guess you get what you pay for (it WAS cheap, afterall).

That a sufficient answer?

Listen the reason i thought he was mexican is because that last name is uncommon in Argentina, Spain, and Paraguay. So he is very likely to be latino from every country between mexico down to the south. Therefore my hypothesis.

Angel, Ramon, Tizoc, T.Hawk, pepe are the only fighters i can remember that are considered Cool.I believe there was another one in Saturday Night Slammers, but I can't remember his name, another one is Don Tacos from Pang 3. A friend of mine told me the fighting cactus in marvel vs capcom 2 was also mexican, this I can't confirm.
